Pro Bono Manager and Supervising Attorney
to join the Pro Bono Legal Services department.The Pro Bono Manager and Supervising Attorney, CORP is responsible for designing and implementing the overall strategy for recruitment and retention of volunteer attorneys for Pro Bono Legal Services (PBLS), as well as supervising the operations of the Community Organization Representation Project (CORP). This position will collaborate with PBLS staff to plan volunteer events, oversee volunteer outreach for PBLS, and supervise PBLS volunteers at events such as Project Homeless Connect's Community Day of Service.NOTE: To the extent possible, reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.AdministrationCollaborate with the PBLS Director/Managing Attorney to develop and implement JDC policy and new projectsSupervise CORP staff (Legal Programs Coordinator) and Volunteer and Clinics Coordinator positions. Collaborate with the PBLSDirector/Managing Attorney and CORP staff to oversee administration and personnel matters for CORP including:Client inquiries and applicationEvaluating matters for purposes of issue spotting and placementPlacement of matters with volunteer attorneysProviding legal referral information to clients, depending on the nature of issue and the clientRecruitmentCommunicate with firms regarding pro bono opportunities, presentations, and information requestsDesign and implement an outreach campaign and recruitment strategy directed at volunteer attorneys, social services volunteers, interpreters, paralegals, students and othersWork with law firms, law schools, corporate legal departments and government law offices to design volunteer programs and signature projects to meet their needs, developing new products that suit emerging volunteer needs, as well as appropriately positioning existing JDC opportunities to enhance marketabilityCoordinate outreach and recruitment efforts to potential volunteers when initiated by other JDC staffTraining and RetentionOversee coordination of training for volunteer attorneys and organizationsSupervise the Volunteer Coordinator to produce the annual JDC Volunteer Appreciation PartyWork with JDC and BASF staff on preparing print and electronic communications regarding trainings and volunteer recognitionCoordinate nominations and awards of JDC volunteers, staff, and supportersOversee the PBLS Volunteer Coordinator planCollaborate with other JDC staff to ensure that volunteers are satisfied with their work for JDCPublic Relations/OutreachWork with BASF Communications Department to produce recruitment materialsWork with Publications and Development departments on public relations materialCoordinate production of volunteer, project/program, and client spotlights for circulation among BASFpublications and social media platforms and on JDC and BASF webpages.Attend legal and community conferences and presentations to represent JDC (may require non-local travel)Engage in public speaking at firms and public eventsPrepare reports and presentations regarding pro bono servicesEducation:J.D. is requiredExperience:Minimum of two years of legal experienceExperience in or interest in serving a diverse, low-income communityExperience with pro bono-based projects is preferredExperience working in or with law firms is preferredPrerequisite Skills and Experiences:Must be a member of the California State Bar in good standingAbility to effectively manage several projects simultaneously, and handle a high volume of activity (meeting deadlines)Ability to develop effective strategic plansExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to use good judgment in making effective decisions quicklyExcellent organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detailAbility to be extroverted in social settings, and to network effectivelyAbility to work well in a team environmentKnowledge in any of the following areas of law: poverty, corporate, nonprofit, consumer, bankruptcy, real estate, employment, or tax and knowledge of community economic development issues is preferredProficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)Equal Opportunity Employer:JDC is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
