Description:

The Physician Assistant is responsible for the pre-, intra-, and post-surgical care of patients under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Division of Adult Reconstructive Surgery, in the Department of Orthopaedics. The Physician Assistant also provides professional support to the physician(s) in the diagnosis and treatment of patients and work as the on-site provider at the Illinois Department of Corrections Joliet Inpatient Treatment Center (JITC). The incumbent's primary clinical role will be to facilitate general orthopedic care for Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) patients at the JITC in collaboration the orthopedic team at UI Health.

Duties & ResponsibilitiesWorks collaboratively with other providers in the care of patients, specifically patients in custody.Performs an accurate history and physical examination of patients. Conducts comprehensive or episodic health assessments and develops patient care plans. Performs procedures according to clinical delineation of privileges. Provides prevention strategies and management of acute and chronic health problems. Orders and interprets tests, treatments, and therapies within the scope of practice.Prescribes medications, diet, supplies, prosthetic devices, and other home health aides or medication according to clinical privileges.Provides clear, concise, accurate, and legible documentation regarding patient care in the medical record. Provides education to patients, families, and clinical companions using established education materials. Advocates for patients, families, co-workers, the community, and the nursing profession.Integrates evidence-based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision-making.Provides comprehensive teaching strategies for patients, their families, and he. Provides formal and/or informal education or mentorship to both internal and external groups pertinent to area of specialty. Acts as a resource for clinical staff in the practice setting. Leads multidisciplinary teams to provide integrated delivery of patient care services.Department/Specialty Specific ResponsibilitiesApply and remove casts and other immobilization devices.First and second assistance with suturing and other surgical proceduresAssist in clinical and basic science projects such as client reviews, implant retrieval studies, and registry data gathering.Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited PA program with Masters or Doctoral Degree in Medical Science. Current license as a Physician Assistant in the State of Illinois required.

Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required. Current controlled substance licensure required.

Current National Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between physician and PA providers as well as college and hospital leadership and the multi-disciplinary team.

Demonstrated experience in leadership, multidisciplinary collaboration, interpersonal communication, education, clinical experience, and change management required.

Documentation in the medical record to substantiate accurate billing, when applicable
