Provides evaluation of and care for respiratory therapy patients under the direct supervision of a licensed registered or certified respiratory therapist.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Licensed by West Virginia Board of Respiratory Care under a student temporary permit, or applicable state where services will be performed. 2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. Working under the supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist certified or registered this position will: 1. Set up and maintain low flow oxygen devices of 6 LPM or less to include nasal cannula or a simple mask. 2. Set up and maintain aerosol devices with Fi02 of equal to or less than 50%. 3.Deliver medications through a spontaneous small volume nebulizer. 4. Deliver medication via Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI) or dry powder inhaler 5. Measure of peak flow, simple spirometry, and pulse oximetry. 6. Administer the following airway clearance devices or techniques: therapy vest, chest physiotherapy, incentive spirometry, suctioning via artificial airway, and positive expiratory pressure therapies. 7. Communicate appropriately and effectively with other members of the healthcare team regarding all aspects of patient care. 8. Provides assistance with patient and family/caregiver education along with other members of the healthcare team.
