Responsibilities:
Conduct assessments and evaluations to determine students’ visual impairments and their impact on learning.
Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments.
Provide direct instruction and support to students in areas such as orientation, mobility, and adaptive technology.
Collaborate with classroom teachers, parents, and other specialists to ensure students’ access to the curriculum.
Teach skills related to independent travel, spatial awareness, and environmental navigation.
Attend IEP meetings and contribute expertise on orientation and mobility.
May work with students who have additional disabilities.
Job Qualifications
Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist.
Knowledge of adaptive technology and assistive devices.
Experience working with students with visual impairments preferred.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
