Position SummaryThe Vice President, Executive Underwriter is responsible for overseeing underwriting operations and strategy. The role involves evaluating and managing complex risks, ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines, and making crucial decisions to enhance the organization's profitability. They collaborate with senior management to develop underwriting policies, drive innovation in risk assessment, and optimize portfolio performance.
What will your job entail?
Job Responsibilities:•Defines and develops underwriting policies and strategies that propel organizational performance and reviews the business targets and market expansion plans.•Serves as the advisor for the executive leadership team, answers technical underwriting queries and provides strategic inputs on decisions that have an impact beyond the underwriting business.•Translates strategic vision into impactful financial results, ensuring the business contributes to the organizational success while meeting the key financial indicators.•Provides leadership and direction to underwriting team while supervising and managing the performance of underwriters and support staff.•Oversees the management of underwriting portfolio monitoring and analyzing the performance of existing policies and portfolios to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.•Develops underwriting guidelines and policies ensuring that underwriters adhere to established guidelines and compliance policies.•Recruits, develops, and mentors underwriting staff providing guidance and training to enhance skills and knowledge of the underwriting team.•Manages financial performance, develops, and monitors budgets, analyzes financial reports, and implements strategies to achieve financial targets.•Provides training and professional development opportunities for underwriting staff fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the underwriting team.
Work Experience and Education:•Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in Underwriting or a related field with minimum of 7 years of experience in management role is preferred.•Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred; Business Administration, Risk Management, Finance or Economics preferred. Any other related discipline or commensurate work experience considered.
Licenses & Certifications:•State P&C and/or surplus line license is required.•Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) a plus.
