GENERAL SUMMARY

The Specialty Program Coordinator performs a wide variety of patient care activities and accommodative services to support a defined patient population program or service. Demonstrates excellence in practice characterized by quality patient care and participation in formal and informal patient and staff education. Provides developmentally appropriate psychosocial and clinical care. Reports to Practice Manager/Supervisor and works in close cooperation with and under the clinical guidance of the practice physician(s).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaborates and coordinates program with a multidisciplinary team to provide quality patient care and services.

Provides developmentally appropriate psychosocial and clinical care.

Communicates among providers, patient and community resources to enhance the care of the defined population.

Assists in the development and maintenance of policies, procedures, protocols to enhance patient outcomes.

Performs other duties as assigned.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

Current Virginia state license as a Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse holding a valid Compact State license, professional certification in the area of expertise or BSN, MSN or NP preferred.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

(Neurology, Craniofacial, Research, Sickle Cell, Bleeding Disorders ,Oncology, Late Effects/Neuro-Oncology, Gastric Motility Disorders, Pediatric Surgery, Renal Transplant, Peritoneal Dialysis, Endocrine, Spine Program) :

Bachelor’s Degree required or must be actively enrolled in a Bachelor’s program with graduation within three years.

Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice as it relates to the area of expertise.

Technical and professional knowledge and skills unique to the clinical services provided, usually acquired through 3-5 years’ progressive clinical experience in the related specialty area.

Pediatric experience preferred.

CPR Training required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.

APHON Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Course and Maintenance required and/or must be obtained within 90 days of hire where applicable for patient population or service.

COG membership required if necessary for the performance of job role.

Valid Virginia driver’s license necessary if required for the performance of job role.

Ability to travel.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
