Storage Engineer

What you will be working on: As the Storage Engineer, you will:
Design, architect, configure, deploy, upgrade, and support various storage and backup platforms and associated management tools. Diagnose and troubleshoot storage systems and other related technologies. Adhere to engineering and architecture standards and participate in technical review meetings as required. Participate in the evaluation, deployment, management, and integration of new technologies in alignment with other engineers, architects, and technical service lanes. Provide incident support and participate in on-call rotation during off-hours and weekends. Create and maintain documentation: logical/physical diagrams, run books, and other technical engineering documents. Demonstrate initiative and commitment to optimizing systems and processes. Oversee the installation of new storage hardware and software according to standard operating procedures. Oversee updates to hardware, operating systems, and software as needed to provide required functionality and security. Ensure systems are monitored and statistics relevant to capacity, performance, utilization, etc., are collected and regularly reviewed. Keep abreast of current developments in storage and backup technology to assist Federal staff in assessing the future direction of storage and backup technology.
What you will bring to us (Must):
BS degree and 5+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Hands-on engineering experience with NetApp and other storage technologies and concepts. Experience with SAN, NAS, and iSCSI storage implementations. Experience with capacity planning and sizing storage and backup environments. Experience in performance tuning and optimizing storage and backup environments. Experience with data center migrations and storage replication technologies. Senior-level experience with the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of large-scale systems, preferably across multiple hardware platforms and data centers. Strong understanding of high availability concepts with practical experience and implementation of key components in storage environments. Strong understanding of fundamental hardware concepts: disk, memory, CPU, NIC, HBA, firmware, RAID, performance concepts (I/O, paging, swapping, system calls), iSCSI, Fiber Channel, Ethernet. Strong understanding of essential TCP/IP concepts: TCP, UDP, ICMP, SMTP, SNMP, LDAP, DNS, NTP, etc. Understanding of security best practices and federal hardening requirements (FISMA, STIG, etc.). CompTIA Security+ or similar certification for IAT Level II DoD 8570 compliance. Proficient written and oral communication skills. Strong collaborative attitude and ability to work in a team environment. Ability to take direct on.
Would be nice if you bring the following (Highly Desired):
NetApp Certification. PowerShell/Python scripting experience. Experience leveraging scripts to audit and enforce configuration standards. Amazon Web Services / C2S experience.
