Job Description:

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated electronics person who has a passion for innovative technology. They will be responsible for designing and implementing electrical devices into systems. They should be able to make quality assurance checks in order to keep the product standard high. This position reports to the Electrical Engineering Manager and is headquartered in Akron, OH.

Primary Purpose of Position: Design and develop electronics and electrical devices for the inspection of food and beverage containers.This person is involved with all aspects of the development cycle, from ideation to commercialization.

In This Position, You Will:

  • Join a team of Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Imaging Scientists and Software Developers supporting vision inspection systems for metal and glass containers.
  • Support teams working on R&D, New Product Development and Sustaining projects.
  • Visit customer sites to promote the proper use of inspection systems and assist with customer feedback activities.
  • Grow into a subject matter expert on Antares Vision Systems and their end-use application.
  • Use your technical skills to impact daily operations and sales .
  • Use your technical skills and product knowledge to support team members across the organization including Operations, Purchasing, Software, Sales and Field Service.
  • Assist in commercialization of new technology to the company and to the container inspection industry.
  • Travel domestically and internationally (Up to 10%).

Essential Function and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of electronic design files including schematics, PCB layout and BOMs.
  • Design, Prototype and Test circuit board assemblies.
  • Support 2-12 layer PCBs with board frequencies up to 500MHz.
  • Working knowledge of AC and DC systems.
  • Support the Mechanical Engineering team designing industrial wiring cabinets that need to survive in harsh environments with a long service life.
  • Support component obsolescence replacement or design modifications.
  • Design electro-mechanical assemblies that are required to have a service life or 5+ years running nearly 24/7/365.
  • Create, check and approve engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Design test fixtures and test procedures to ensure our products are high quality and easy to manufacture.
  • Define test plans and support Verification and Validation testing.
  • Support some of the brightest and most unique LED based illumination sources in the industry.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field, preferably electronics engineering, electrical engineering or computer engineering, with 5-7 years of experience.
  • Strong knowledge of PCB design and layout with QFNs, BGAs.
  • OrCAD Capture and Allegro PCB Editor experience is preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with emphasis on mixed systems composed of hardware, firmware, and software.
  • Experience with SolidWorks Electrical is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Hands on PCB assembly and rework experience with both SMT and TH are highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of C and C++. Knowledge of embedded microcontroller development preferred but not required.
  • Familiar with Altera CPLDs and FPGAs including NIOS development.
  • Familiar with Microchip PIC processors.
  • Basic knowledge of optics, illumination and digital imaging.
  • Be highly motivated and demonstrate a passion for electronics and electrical design.
  • Comfortable with basic EE lab equipment (Oscilloscope, Power suppliers, signal generators).
