We are looking for an Interiors Trim Design Engineer to work in Auburn Hills. This role requires the person to be onsite at a state of the art engineering center. The Interior Trim Design Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing complete interiors systems and components for automotive and commercial vehicles. Interior Engineering will work with complete cross functional vehicle development team to define functional requirements, develop component and system DVPR, DFMEA, and releasing system and component performance specifications. Engineering candidate will be responsible for the resolution of issues in connection with the design communicating all progress and concerns relative to designing. Strong verbal and written communication skills & interpersonal skills.
Summary- Assist with new program development by influencing design, provide tooling estimates, provide material suggestions, participate in risk analysis, help to coordinate drawings, be able to analyze and provide suggestions regarding cost reduction and quality improvement opportunities.
- Experience developing interior trim parts from concept to launch is beneficial.
- CAD trained in Interior Trims
- System knowledge in any one of the following
- Instrument Panels and Consoles
- Hard Trim (Pilar trims: hard and soft wrapped)
- Soft Trim (Overhead, carpet and etc)
- In-depth knowledge of plastic materials, mold design and molding processes
- Experience with planning and managing projects, supplier and vendor management, product development and lifecycle stages.
- Participates in engineering impacted cost reduction efforts.
- Troubleshoot using DOE process and other black belt methodologies.
- Participates in the creation and implementation of new design concepts.
- Maintains up-to-date BOM (Bill of Material) for all assigned parts.
- Fosters continuous improvement in performance, quality and cost.
- Foster cross-functional design activities as a team player.
- Releases final designs for manufacturing into Team Center.
- Perform feasibility checks with respect to material, manufacturing & design perspective.
- Well versed with global relevant standard & methodology.
- Assess design modification concept creation while optimizing ease of manufacturing, cost, weight, and function.
- Assist new product designs to prevent and/or solve any engineering issue that may arise.
- Responsible for the final design robustness and product quality.
- Extensive experience working with vendors located in India and Europe
- Familiar with India automotive requirements
- CATIA V5

- Microsoft Word/Excel/Power Point
- Domestic and international travel required.
- Flexibility in hours based on international collaboration
- 2 to 12 years interior related design engineering experience
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering
- CATIA V5 knowledge
