Senior Automation Engineer

Avo Photonics (www.avophotonics.com) is a dynamic contract engineering services company that designs, develops and manufactures custom opto-electronic products for a large customer base. Members of our staff have the opportunity to design, prototype and produce next generation products for a diverse range of markets including environmental, medical, military, industrial, aerospace, and communications.

The successful candidate must plan his/her own work schedule, keep multiple records, be self-motivated, maintain a professional presence, and have the desire to take ownership of projects.
Specifically:
- Oversee all manufacturing automation within our business; select and implement automation hardware, create of test software applications, generate production line monitoring tools, and develop of APIs for hardware interfacing
- Provide subject matter expertise for automation equipment; understand, evaluate, and procure robot hardware needed for automation tasks
- Lead software projects through the development lifecycle; produce software requirement documents, architect object-oriented solutions, and maintain repository of code modules for re-use in future applications
- Train and mentor software and automation engineers
- Plan, schedule, and track progress of software development tasks
- Through code reviews, ensure software development activities follow best practices; including unit testing, PEP-257 documentation, and error logging
- Interact with Product, Process, and Manufacturing team leads to ensure software meets testing, traceability, product, and end user requirements
- Generate documentation to include in the quality management system; contribute to business knowledge repositories for software development and test automation
Requirements:
- B.S. in Computer Science, Optical Engineering, Physics, or related field
- 5 years of Python programming experience
- 3 years of software architecture experience
- 1 year experience in project management
- 1 year of experience with machine vision (OpenCV preferred)
- 1 year of manufacturing experience
- Experience aligning and testing optical systems on optical breadboards is a plus
