Electrical and Automation Controls Engineer
Job Summary
The Electrical and Automation Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, planning, control panel layout, and programming machine controls for custom pad printing and digital inkjet machine projects.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- Represent panel layouts, schematics and wire run lists using CAD systems and documentation such as bills of materials, specifications and instruction sheets.
- Supports the Sales team to determine technical requirements for machine automation and controls as they relate to parts handling, printer and tooling movement coordination.
- Works with subcontractors and vendors to understand specialty parts and their applications.
- Actively participate in product design reviews and work directly with the engineering staff to develop cost effective solutions.
- Supports Tech Service and customers to assist / guide technicians to achieve the proper solution to an issue.
- Works with assembly technicians to guide them if required for assembly of components.
- Ensures that all relevant data is collected, reviewed and filed for all projects in accordance with standard procedures.
- Contribute to written instructions and operation manuals.
- Ensures safe work practices are followed and complies with safety regulations.
Requirements – Knowledge, Skills, Education
- Associate degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent plus 2 to 5 years experience, hands-on experience preferred, willing to train;
- Knowledge of printing systems a plus (Pad Printing or Digital Ink Jet);
- Familiar with multiple control platforms (PLC, HMI) examples: Automation Direct, Allen Bradley, Panasonic;
- Strong knowledge of multiple programming languages (Ladder, Structured Text);
- Knowledge of robot systems and programming preferred but not required (Fanuc);
- Strong understanding of safety circuits and components;
- Familiarity with vision inspection systems a plus (Keyence, Cognex);
- Knowledge of Electro/Mechanical technologies, equipment, and their associated applications and processes;
- Strong knowledge of schematic design software (Solidworks Electrical, AutoCAD Electrical);
- Microsoft Office software: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
- Cost estimating /cost reduction;
- Ability to conceptualize and solve complex problems;
- OSHA, CE, and CSA awareness;
- Strong interpersonal skills, excellent communications skills – both written and verbal;
- Maintains accurate and complete records.
