At LinkedIn, we’re hiring a staff software engineer to develop and manage infrastructure business operations software and data systems from concept through its production life-cycle. The successful candidate will lead, build, and manage development and operations of software/data/process solutions to transform data center infrastructure engineering and operations, specifically, hardware forecasting, power capacity planning, financial planning and management, sourcing/procurement/supply-chain management, hardware fulfillment and asset life-cycle management. The candidate will focus on both long-term decisions and the prioritization and execution of short-term actions.
Roles and responsibilities* Drive Strategy and Vision: Develop the vision and define strategic roadmaps for transforming data center infrastructure operations, leading initiatives to improve business efficiency and operations.* Analyze and Innovate: Evaluate the current state of systems, identify gaps and opportunities for improvement, and design high-impact solutions. Collaborate with stakeholders to align objectives, plan development, prioritize features, and execute with precision.* Champion Customer Success: Advocate for customer outcomes, ensuring that solutions deliver measurable ROI and tangible business benefits.* Architect and Build Distributed Systems: Design and develop distributed applications, making architectural decisions that balance synchronous and asynchronous design patterns. Write high-quality code, ensuring timely delivery with a focus on performance and reliability.* Develop Scalable Applications: Build multi-tier, user-centric applications that are scalable, high-performing, and reliable, ensuring 24x7 uptime for mission-critical systems.* Design Backend Systems and APIs: Create robust data models, schemas, and APIs to support seamless backend operations, ensuring efficient data flow and system integration.* Create Reusable UI/UX Components: Develop and maintain a consistent, reusable UX/UI pattern library to standardize common workflows such as search, list, CRUD operations, reporting, and analytics across applications.* Ensure Code Quality and Best Practices: Deliver high-quality software that is thoroughly unit tested, code reviewed, and regularly integrated into the development pipeline for continuous integration.* Provide Technical Leadership: Lead by example, establishing and driving best engineering practices to plan, initiate, and execute large-scale, cross-functional projects.* Improve Engineering Productivity: Identify and champion opportunities to enhance engineering efficiency and productivity through process improvement, tool development, and knowledge sharing.* Mentor and Develop Team Members: Mentor junior engineers, guiding them on coding standards, design patterns, and operational best practices to foster growth and improve team capability.* Support Production Systems: Provide on-call and production support for deployed systems, ensuring operational stability and addressing issues promptly.
Basic qualifications* BA/BS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience* 5+ years of experience in software design, development, and algorithm related solutions such as database design and development, API development and integration, distributed systems development, version control and software development collaboration tools, etc* 5+ years programming experience in object-oriented programming languages such as Python, Java, Javascript, C/C++, C#, Objective-C, or Ruby.
Preferred qualifications
Database design and development* Strong knowledge of database design, data models, schema creation, and optimization.* Expertise in relational, document-oriented and time series databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, Couchbase, Cassandra, MongoDB)* Experience with data migration, ETL processes, and database scaling for large datasets.
API Development and Integration* Experience designing, building, and maintaining RESTful APIs or GraphQL services.* Strong understanding of API security, authentication (OAuth, JWT), and performance best practices.* Experience in integrating third-party APIs and services.* Proficiency in back-end languages (e.g., Python, Go, Node.js, Java) for building scalable services.
UI/UX Development* Proficiency with front-end technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript, and modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js).* Experience with responsive design, cross-browser compatibility, and web accessibility.* Understanding of design principles and experience collaborating with UI/UX teams to implement intuitive user interfaces.* Familiarity with front-end state management (e.g., Redux, Vuex) and component-based architecture.
Distributed Systems Development* Experience building and deploying distributed, scalable, and fault-tolerant systems.* Familiarity with microservices architecture, event-driven design, and message brokers (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ).* Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).* Experience with load balancing, caching, and scaling strategies to ensure high availability and performance.
Version Control and Collaboration Tools* Proficiency with Git and experience in collaborative workflows (e.g., GitFlow, Pull Requests).* Experience using issue tracking, CI/CD pipelines, and task management tools (e.g., JIRA, GitHub).
Familiarly with LLM Application Stack* LLMs (GPT, Llama, Gemini)* Vector databases (Qdrant, ElasticSearch)* Embedding models (Hugging Face, MixedBread)* Orchestration tools (LlamaIndex, LangChain)

The pay range for this role is $147,000-240,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
