Fellow, San Francisco, CA, United States

At Fellow, we’re imagining new connected home appliances and how consumers interact with these devices in their kitchens. We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team and help shape the future of our products.

You will take a key role in component selection, vendor management, and design reviews, ensuring that our products are designed to the highest standards of quality and functionality.

Your expertise will play a role in prototyping new concepts, diagnosing and resolving issues in both design and manufacturing, and continuously improving the electrical performance of our products.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA and is required to be in-office on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Responsibilities:

Component Selection & Vendor Management:

  • Lead the selection of electrical components, ensuring they meet product specifications, cost targets, and availability requirements.
  • Work closely with vendors to manage sourcing, ensure component quality, and resolve any issues that arise during development or production.
  • Evaluate new technologies and components that could enhance product functionality and performance.

Design Reviews & Collaboration:

  • Lead electrical design reviews for products in development, ensuring designs meet all performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and mechanical engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of all system components.
  • Provide feedback and guidance on PCB design, layout, and testing to junior engineers and other team members.

Prototyping & Product Development:

  • Play a key role in early prototyping efforts, developing electrical systems for new product concepts.
  • Develop, test, and refine prototypes to prove out new technologies and features, ensuring they are ready for production.
  • Contribute to the design for manufacturability (DFM) process, ensuring electrical systems are optimized for production.

Issue Diagnosis & Continuous Improvement:

  • Diagnose and resolve electrical issues in existing products, working closely with the manufacturing team to implement design changes and ensure product reliability.
  • Lead root cause analysis for any field failures or performance issues, and develop solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Continuously review and improve designs, making recommendations for updates to future products or revisions to current models.

Cross-Functional Engagement:

  • Work closely with firmware, software, and mechanical engineering teams to ensure cohesive product development and successful integration of electrical components.
  • Understand the latest architecture approaches in secure IoT device provisioning and management for consumer hardware. Make continued recommendations to evolve our designs.
  • Identify potential risks in software development and create strategies to mitigate them, ensuring the safety and efficacy of our appliances.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on consumer electronics or connected devices.
  • Proven experience with component selection, PCB design, and schematic development for complex systems.
  • Strong understanding of electrical design principles, including power management, signal integrity, and thermal considerations.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, and debugging electrical systems.
