Maintenance Manager

Role Summary:

Starwest Botanicals is an industry leader within the organic herb, botanical, spice, and tea industry. With nearly 50 years of experience, Starwest has grown to become a global player in the wholesale ingredient space. The company is proudly based in Sacramento, California.

The Maintenance Manager will have responsibility for all equipment, maintenance programs, CAPEX, facilities, and uptime reporting across three company buildings in Sacramento, CA. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing hourly mechanics, preventative maintenance, and parts inventory to improving equipment reliability. This position is located in Sacramento, California.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs to ensure equipment uptime and efficiency.
  • Lead, train, and schedule a team of maintenance technicians.
  • Oversee emergency breakdowns and troubleshooting of equipment to minimize production interruptions.
  • Plan and implement CAPEX projects.
  • Ensure timely and cost-effective purchasing of parts and equipment.
  • Collaborate with external vendors and service providers for equipment repairs, procurement of parts, and maintenance contracts.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance work including schedules, repairs, and inspections.
  • Prepare regular reports on performance, downtime, expenses, and safety.
  • Track key performance measures (KPIs) and implement continuous improvement strategies.
  • Participate in the S&OP process.
  • Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Work within federal, state, local, auditing body, and company standards to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Work cross functionally with other departments such as production and quality.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in food manufacturing is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field is required.
  • Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, database management, spreadsheet creation, email, and internet.
  • Excellent communication, problem solving, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities - simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance standards related to food manufacturing, warehousing, and GMPs.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a team of hourly employees ranging from 5-8.
  • Provides constructive and timely feedback to improve performance to employees.

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods of working on the production floor.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.

Travel Required:

  • Travel between company facilities within the Sacramento, CA area is required.

Work Location:

  • This position requires the candidate to be on-site in Sacramento, CA daily.
  • Work from home or remote work is not available for this position.
