Sr. Employee Relations & Investigations Specialist (Contract)

Our client is a large and well-established healthcare provider in the Los Angeles area. They are looking for a Sr. Employee Relations & Investigations Specialist, well-experienced in handing the broad range of employee relations and compliance issues, providing manager guidance, conducting complex investigations, creating detailed legal documentation of findings, and bringing fair, compassionate and consistent recommendations and resolutions to employee relations issues and disciplinary actions. A high degree of self-direction and discretion is utilized in this role, supported by the Employee Relations Specialist’s experience and knowledge of policies, procedures, best practices and a solid foundation in employment law and compliance.
The position reports to a Director of Legal & Compliance and is located in the greater Los Angeles area. This role offers the option for remote work-from-home, with in-office days, as-needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Sr. Employee Relations & Investigations Specialist coordinates and works collaboratively with Human Resources, appropriate departments and related stakeholders.
- With limited supervision, the Senior HR Compliance Specialist provides HR compliance and consultation services related to local, state and federal laws and regulations, HR policies and procedures, equal employment opportunity requirements, employment litigation, federal and state employment laws and regulations, and/or other compliance or regulatory matters.
- The Sr. Employee Relations & Investigations Specialist promotes compliance with applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations by leading through influence, providing consultative and/or investigation services and serving as a resource to other departments and management regarding employment law, HR policies and/or other compliance and regulatory matters.
- Conducts complex investigations into Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), wage-hour, Corporate policy violations and/or other employment-related issues.
- Conducts witness interviews, compile and review relevant documentation, analyze evidence, prepare reports and summaries, and provide appropriate recommendations and guidance to management.
- Under the guidance of leadership, investigate and respond to government agency complaints, such as from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH), Department of Labor (DOL), and Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE).
REQUIREMENTS:
- B.A./B.S required. JD or related Master’s Degree preferred.
- 7+ years of experience effectively managing employment investigations related to Corporate and legal employment compliance along with investigations and litigation support.
- 5+ years of experience supporting HR Compliance and Litigation (or other legal experience) required.
- Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations, including leave and disability laws, wage and hour regulations and EEO.
- Ability to interpret and apply knowledge of State, Federal and Agency standards to comply with regulations.
- Ability to use discretion and maintain privacy, confidentiality or anonymity.
- Ability to demonstrate problem solving skills and recommend solutions.
- Ability to communicate expectations and priorities, and clarify roles and responsibilities.
- Ability to initiate, plan, design, execute, and monitor project(s).
- Ability to convey and/or receive written/verbal information to/from various audiences in different formats.
- Ability to apply critical thinking to analyze and interpret information and/or data.
