Production Manager

PLANT HOURS:
- 1st Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
- 3rd Shift: 8:00 PM – 6:30 AM
- Production Manager: Typically works from 6:00 AM – 4:00 PM and may occasionally support the 3rd shift team.
IMPORTANT NOTE:Previous experience in large manufacturing environments is essential. Proficiency in Spanish is a plus but not mandatory.
SUMMARY:
The Production Manager oversees all manufacturing activities within the assigned plant(s), directly supervising Department Managers with a focus on mentoring, training, and development. This role is responsible for supporting the objectives, programs, and policies established for each plant. The Production Manager also undertakes special assignments for the Plant Manager that contribute to the production of high-quality products efficiently, safely, and in alignment with corporate philosophy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement programs, policies, and procedures that enhance customer satisfaction both internally and externally.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and objectives; train employees on safety protocols, safe working practices, and equipment operation. Conduct routine safety inspections and promote a culture of safety.
- Maintain high-quality standards by working on projects and programs that align with corporate quality policies. Educate employees on product quality and address audit findings.
- Develop and administer orientation training programs for Department Managers, focusing on personnel policies, coaching skills, continuous improvement techniques, and relevant topics.
- Foster excellent human relations and team-building skills. Facilitate collaboration among Department Managers and hourly employees to maintain a positive work environment, ensuring fair treatment and recognition of achievements.
- Support plant-wide programs and policies related to customer satisfaction, quality, cost reduction, customer service, waste reduction, and material yield.
- Identify and implement strategies to maximize material yield and educate the team on its importance to profitability.
- Assist in annual budgeting and strategic planning to drive cost productivity and achieve manufacturing cost objectives.
- Collaborate with Plant Managers and Continuous Improvement Managers to identify and support projects that align with continuous improvement goals. Mentor Department Managers in effective continuous improvement practices.
- Participate in the selection and mentoring of Department Managers, evaluate their performance, and implement development plans.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages 6-12 subordinate supervisors, overseeing a total of 20-40 employees in the plant. Responsible for directing, coordinating, and evaluating this unit in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws. Duties include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning and assigning work; evaluating performance; addressing complaints; and resolving issues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; four years of relevant experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business publications, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Proficient in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Capable of effectively presenting information and responding to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistics, and geometry. Able to apply concepts like fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations, as well as compute rates and interpret graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and manage a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Capable of interpreting a range of instructions presented in various formats.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
