Plant Engineer
Schedule: 5-6 days a week with some weekend work when needed
Food - Senior Maintenance / Engineering background
The Maintenance Engineering Manager is responsible for managing maintenance functions and providing maintenance support for the plant. Position facilitates training for Supervisors and Mechanics with the purpose of ensuring departmental and operational safety and regulatory compliance, develops and maintains preventative maintenance program.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide strong leadership to foster continuous improvement and open communication in the Maintenance Department while managing the equipment and the maintenance staff. In addition, to buildings and grounds and all infrastructures.
- Mentor Maintenance Supervisors, Purchasing Supervisor, Planner/Scheduler, Mechanics and Parts Attendants. Manage the Skills Knowledge Proficiency Program (SKPP) platform for hourly staff. Provide formal and informal feedback through coaching, monitoring and evaluating job results based on goals and objectives.
- Develop metrics to hold the department accountable for completion rate, timing and machine up-time/reliability.
- Coordinate, develop, maintain, and deliver Preventative and Predictive Maintenance routes for all plant equipment, infrastructure, and grounds. New and existing.
- Attentively work with the Purchasing Supervisor to coordinate with outside suppliers and vendors to purchase, maintain and refurbish equipment parts. Establish a Safety Stock of parts in the Part Cage based on maximum and minimum inventory level from Manufacture Recommendations, historical machine reliability and lead times.
- Ensure compliance with departmental and operational regulatory food and employee safety requirements.
- Coordinate and work on activities related to enforcing food safety:
- Examples - Safe Quality Foods (SQF) / WSDA Organic / Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) / Internal & External Customer Audits / Backflow / company Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP’s)
- Manage efforts related to employee safety:
- Examples – Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) / Confined Space / Ladder Safety / Fall Protection
- Document Control: Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP’s) relevant to the area of responsibility. Confirm appropriate documents are stored and approved within the Intelex system. Ensure appropriate personnel are adequately trained to all relevant approved documents.
- Prepare a Budget and a Spend Plan. Manage spending for Labor and Parts to meet budget and forecasts.
- Perform under the Working Conditions described below.
EXPERIENCED NEEDED
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of maintenance supervisor and/or maintenance manager experience.
- HACCP Certification, SQF Certification, Food Safety Programs training, and/or sanitary equipment design training are preferred.
- PM Program development & execution is required.
- Principles and practices of food manufacturing, including: food safety, quality, manufacturing concepts.
- Principles and practices of plant maintenance programs
- Principles and practices of managing capital projects.
- Principles and practices of maintenance, electrical, electronics, PLC, fabrication, and welding.
- Principles and practices of refrigeration and steam production.
- Knowledge of financial forecasting, budgeting, and accounting.
- Working knowledge of FDA and OSHA regulations, GMPs, Sanitation, and HACCP.
- Understanding of associated processing equipment and engineering.
- Principles and practices of continuous improvement concepts and related application technique.
- Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
- Effectively manage and lead multiple projects with multidisciplinary teams toward a shared goal.
- Gain cooperation through discussion and persuasion.
- Identify, research, and analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, and project consequences of proposed actions.
- Effectively organize, plan, and execute.
- Use computers and computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
