Midtown Church is a fast-growing, multi-ethnic, and multi-generational church with a passion for reaching the city for Christ. It is our mission to bring hope, health, and healing to Greater Sacramento and beyond. We do this by reaching the most vulnerable, addressing racial & economic disparities, reconciling relationships, maintaining proximity to the vulnerable, recognizing the value of all, and bringing compassion and the Gospel to areas of brokenness and division. We do serious work in our city, without taking ourselves too seriously. We are one church with 2 campuses (currently Midtown Sacramento and Elk Grove, CA), and growing both our online and brick and mortar locations.

Graphic Designer (full-time)

Department: Communications

ABOUT THE POSITION:

We’re seeking a full-time Graphic Designer to join our Communications Team in Sacramento, CA (hybrid position with 1-2 days weekly onsite meetings). An ideal candidate will be a kingdom-minded trend-setter, a creative problem solver, a strong team player with leadership abilities, and a heart for ministry. We're looking for a digitally savvy Graphic Designer who embodies a fun, creative, fresh, cutting-edge approach to design. This role reports directly to the Executive Director and collaborates closely with a dynamic team spanning digital and print marketing, photography, film/broadcasting, and social media.

The Graphic Designer supports all Midtown Church ministries in upholding brand standards while communicating the vision and increasing engagement through content creation for social media, print marketing, video, and more.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Innovative Design Leadership: Drive creative initiatives from concept to execution, producing compelling visuals for digital, print, and social media platforms that reflect our mission and engage our community.
  • Social Media Content Creation: Develop cutting-edge social media content for the main Midtown Church channels (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc.) that resonates with diverse audiences, enhances engagement, and promotes church events and initiatives.
  • Collaborative Project Management: Partner with ministries across Midtown Church to conceptualize and deliver cohesive designs for events, campaigns, and church-wide communications.
  • Brand Stewardship: Maintain brand consistency across all materials, ensuring alignment with Midtown Church’s identity and values while fostering creativity and innovation.
  • Creative Solutions: Offer design expertise and strategic insights to solve complex challenges, contribute to brainstorming sessions, and mentor volunteers in design principles and tools.
  • Design for Film and Broadcast: enhance film and broadcast projects through animation graphics, lower-thirds.
  • Ministry Support: Consult with Midtown Church campuses and ministries to create cohesive designs that reflect the organization’s culture, goals, and values. Create assets that support weekend services and promote church growth including: campus signs, digital ads, slides, broadcast graphics, print marketing
  • Canva: Design and manage Midtown Church branded templates in Canva, an important design tool used throughout the Communications team to ensure efficient workflow, and empowers our staff to create their own promotional materials
  • Project Management: Under the direction of the Executive Director, performs the entire graphic design process to creatively communicate to both internal and external audiences. Concept initiation (brainstorming, prototyping, presentation decks) all the way to project completion (coordination with outside agencies, art services, printers, etc).
  • Visual Storytelling: Design story-driven, impactful, and cohesive campaigns for church-wide events and initiatives such as capital campaigns, community outreach, holidays, new church plants, conferences, weekend services, and more. Deliverables may include environmental and interactive experiences, digital and print marketing, and engaging/cutting-edge social media content.
  • Multi-Task: Work simultaneously on multiple projects based on current workload
  • Ideation and Teamwork: Brainstorming, manage projects, and offer creative solutions to ministry challenges and complex problems.
  • Training and Leadership: Provide support and training to empower ministries to use Canva effectively
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED)

  • Education / Work Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or related field, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience showcasing a robust portfolio in digital, print, and social media design.
  • Digital Fluency: Demonstrate a strong presence on various social media platforms, with a deep understanding of current trends and best practices for churches
  • Creative Excellence: Strong typography skills, color theory, and composition skills with a keen eye for current design trends and the ability to translate ideas into impactful visuals.
  • Team Player: Clear communication skills and a collaborative spirit
  • Passion for ministry: empathy, servant-leadership, and a heart for contributing to the church’s mission through visual storytelling and engaging design.
  • Initiative: Self-starter with the ability to work on tight timelines, and flexibility to pivot under changing parameters and circumstances.
  • Trend-setter: Passion for cutting-edge visual design and learning new methods of designing both
  • Ideation and Execution: Ability to think quickly, generate, and execute ideas
  • Communication: responds to emails, texts, and other lines of communication promptly
  • Discernment: demonstrates good judgment about which creative ideas will work in a church setting
  • Thrives in a deadline-oriented, fast-paced, and collaborative work environment

BONUS POINTS

  • Previous work experience in a church
  • Working knowledge of motion design (Adobe AfterEffects)
  • Excellent copywriting skills
  • General marketing savvy

TIME COMMITMENT

  • 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday)
