Sr. Research Engineer - Autonomous Systems Integration

A leading automotive research institute is looking for a senior research engineer with expertise in system integration for Distributed Multi-Agent Systems. In this role, you will oversee the integration of various algorithms and techniques to support distributed autonomous systems, with a focus on advanced functionality such as collaboration, teaming, mission planning, and decision-making. As a key technical leader in the System Engineering team, you will apply modern software and systems engineering practices to the development of advanced mobility applications. You will serve as the primary point of contact for system integration activities and distributed systems development, ensuring seamless collaboration between teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and integration of novel distributed system architectures for multi-agent systems, supporting cutting-edge autonomous mobility solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with the current system integration team and supervise the exploration of novel distributed system technologies.
  • Architect, design, develop, and test technologies and algorithms for various collaborative mobility scenarios in simulation environments and real-world demonstrations.
  • Take ownership of service architecture, adapting it to meet new requirements and challenges from customers and partners.
  • Act as a primary technical lead in system engineering activities, managing technology integration projects, including system components and hardware.
  • Utilize hands-on development and testing skills for both simulation and real-world multi-agent mobility deployments.
  • Collaborate with a small, multidisciplinary team to ensure the successful integration of complex system components.

Required Skillset:

  • 4+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on collaborative multi-agent autonomous systems, distributed multi-agent systems, and systems integration.
  • Expertise in running collaborative mobility-related algorithms in both simulated and real-world environments.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C++ and Python, with experience in system design and integration.
  • Experience with ROS/ROS2 and other system simulation tools.
  • Experience in planning and optimization within robotics, autonomous systems, or related fields.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to interact with technical engineers, project leads, and non-technical executives.
  • Exposure to working in a multicultural, globally distributed team environment.

Bonus Skillset:

  • Previous experience in an R&D environment.

Location: San Jose, CA (Hybrid – 2-3 days onsite required

Type: LSE (Limited Scope Employment)

Duration: 3 years.

Travel: Occasional travel may be required for demos and executive meetings in Japan.
