System Administrator (VMware and Nutanix environments)

Position: Systems Administrator

Location: New York, NY (fully onsite, 5 days a week)

Duration: 12-month contract (with a possible mote on extension)

Job Overview

A leading utility provider seeks an experienced Systems Administrator with a strong background in system administration, cyber security, and technical support. The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented professional capable of managing and optimizing a range of server, storage, and network environments, with specific expertise in Nutanix and VMware platforms. This role demands onsite support, an adaptable schedule, and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.

Required Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 3-5 years in system administration, cyber security, or a similar role.
• Proficient in Windows, Linux, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Oracle).
• Knowledgeable in network security tools (e.g., NIDS/NIPS, firewall, EDR/XDR).
• Hands-on experience with Nutanix, VMware vSphere, and Hyper-V.
• Scripting skills in PowerShell, Python, or Bash for automation.
• Ability to document system design and create technical solutions.

Desirable Skills

• 2nd and 3rd-level technical support experience.
• Knowledge of SQL and scripting languages.
• Familiarity with Splunk and Failover Manager administration.
• Strong analytical skills for monitoring cyber activity and threat analysis.

Additional Requirements

• Ability to lift/transport server equipment and travel to different company sites.
• Flexible with hours, willing to provide off-hours and on-call support.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass the NERC CIP background check.
