The Product Application Infrastructure (PAI) team’s mission is to build reliable, efficient, and intuitive world class tools and infrastructure that amplify productivity of product engineers that create our suite of Android applications. We support 250+ engineers who make 3,000+ commits each quarter in a codebase of over 2 million lines of code with 9,000+ tests. Our team owns the company-wide Android architecture and libraries that power our core in-app experiences like networking libraries and tracking systems, as well as core parts of our Android tooling stack like our distributed Android cloud test infrastructure system, or Gradle builds spanning hundreds of modules. In addition the team drives various initiatives to improve code quality, improve test stability, and speed up Continuous Integration.
Responsibilities
You will manage the performance and career development of a small team of highly skilled Android engineers, and own significant parts of the LinkedIn Android stack that require design, architecture, and coding.You will participate with senior management in developing and delivering on a long-term technology roadmap enabling our Android developers to be as productive as possible.You will be a role model and professional coach for engineers with a strong bias for action and focus on craftsmanship.You will work with peers across other infra and tools teams to support and leverage a shared technical stack while also directly working with our product engineering teams to deliver value to LinkedIn members.You will drive the architecture and implementation of our Android apps, focusing on quality and performance and working with your team of engineers to scale industry standard technologies like Kotlin and Jetpack Compose to hundreds of engineers and hundreds of millions of LinkedIn members.
You and your team will be responsible for the Android developer platform at LinkedIn, ensuring developers are able to quickly and efficiently produce high-quality software that is unit tested, code reviewed and checked in regularly for continuous integration.
Basic Qualifications
BA/BS Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.1+ year(s) of management experience or 1+ year(s) of staff level engineering experience with management training5+ years of industry experience in software design, development, and large-scale software engineeringDeep understanding of Android SDKs and Android architecture design.Experience with both Java and Kotlin Android applications.Familiarity with industry standard Android technologies like Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.Understanding of best practices for multithreading and performance optimizations on mobile apps.Familiarity with Android tooling like Gradle, AGP, and Android Studio.Experience building with automated testing frameworks for Android apps.
Preferred Qualifications
MS or PhD in Computer Science or related technical discipline2+ years of hands-on software engineering/technical management and people management experience7+ years industry experience in software design, development, and algorithm related solutions. 5+ years programming experience in languages such as Java, C/C++, C#, Python, Go, etc.Experience with testing and deployment of highly available Android applications and knowledge of Android debugging tools including profiling app performance. Familiarity with API design and client/server communication principles and technologies like gRPC and GraphQL.Successful track record of managing small teams of engineers to deliver multiple projects on time and with qualityActive involvement in the creation and execution of technical strategies and roadmapsHire and retain world-class engineers by providing career growth, mentoring, and high impact projects, while taking intelligent risks to improve the way work is done

LinkedIn is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The pay range for this role is $147,000 - $240,000. Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.
