Job Title: PFAS LC/MS Analyst

Key Responsibilities:

  • PFAS Analysis:
  • Conduct PFAS analysis on environmental samples using Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS or LC-MS/MS) equipment in compliance with established methods (e.g., EPA 537, EPA 533, EPA 1633 methods).
  • Prepare samples and standards according to validated protocols, ensuring accurate PFAS detection and quantification.
  • Method Development and Optimization:
  • Assist in developing and optimizing LC/MS methods for PFAS analysis, including tuning of MS parameters and adjustment of chromatographic conditions to enhance detection limits and data quality.
  • Contribute to the validation of new methods and technologies in PFAS analysis.
  • Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC):
  • Perform rigorous QA/QC procedures to ensure data integrity and accuracy, including calibrations, control samples, blanks, and replicate analysis.
  • Document all QA/QC activities and troubleshoot any deviations or discrepancies in accordance with laboratory protocols.
  • Instrument Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
  • Maintain and calibrate LC/MS instrumentation, ensuring optimal operational performance.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues with instrumentation and sample preparation equipment.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting:
  • Analyze and interpret PFAS data, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory and client standards.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports summarizing results, findings, and compliance with quality and regulatory standards.
  • Compliance and Safety:
  • Adhere to all relevant laboratory safety and environmental protocols, ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Stay current with regulatory guidelines, including EPA, ISO, and state-specific PFAS analysis standards.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related scientific field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Experience:
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with LC/MS or LC-MS/MS in an environmental or analytical lab setting.
  • Specific experience with PFAS analysis and related EPA methods (e.g., EPA 537, 533 & 1633) is highly desirable.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Strong understanding of mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography, and sample preparation techniques specific to PFAS analysis.
  • Proficiency with data analysis software and laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
  • Other Skills:
  • Excellent attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with PFAS regulatory frameworks and reporting requirements.
  • Experience in method development or validation of analytical methods for emerging contaminants.
