Senior Storage Engineer

**US Nationwide - Fully remote with up to 40% travel. This position is responsible for post-sales implementations at remote customer sites.
Position Summary
The Sr. Storage Engineer role is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and implementing a variety of customer technologies and services. Customers range from media and entertainment to enterprise environments. The candidate will possess a strong work ethic and hands-on approach to customer interaction and time management. Prior work experience administering medium or larger sized datacenter environments is preferred.
A successful candidate must have strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer first approach. Working as part of an engineering team is expected, however, the ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment will be critical.
Required Skills
- Experience implementing full stack solutions specifically involving storage platforms as aligned to virtualization environments. Fundamental knowledge of storage networking devices with a solid understanding of high availability and disaster recovery.
- In addition to rack and stack experience in a datacenter, you must have extensive experience with storage and data management platforms such as EMC and NetApp environments. You will have installed, maintained, and supported situation critical platforms related to business workloads.
- Experience managing both storage arrays and storage network.
- Experience using advanced operating system tools to troubleshoot configuration, software, and infrastructure problems. For example, Wireshark, Windows Sysinternals, Fiddler, NetCat, etc.
- Experience with networking/distributed computing technologies and services. For example, troubleshooting and implementing DNS, subnetting, DHCP, VLANs, network routing, and VPN.
- Capable of formulating and recommending innovative, automated, and scalable solutions to both non-technical and technical audiences.
- Understanding of administering environments with regulatory compliance requirements such as TPN, MPAA, CDSA, HIPPA, SOX, or others.
- Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation. For example, network diagrams, site surveys, audit reports, etc.
- Experience with physical installation of rack servers, networking equipment and cable management
- Ability to write scripts in some administrative language (e.g., PowerShell, Python, VBScript, Bash)
- Ability to travel to customer locations for onsite support or hardware installations.
- Able to work off hours for planned maintenance, project implementations, or unplanned emergencies as needed.
Required Background
- 7 - 12 years of experience within an MSP, VAR, ISP, NOC, or enterprise IT environment.
- Experience with hyper-converged systems, such as: VxRail, Nutanix, Microsoft Hyper-V, etc.
- The ability to determine the information necessary to strategically assess market situations, as well as the ability to evaluate and determine optimal plans of action is essential.
- Knowledge of various backup and storage technologies, such as: Dell EMC Systems, PowerStore, Unity, IDPA, Data Domain, Avamar, Veeam, VMware vSAN, NetApp, etc.
- Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written and presentation are necessary. Active listening skills are required.
- Excellent influencing and consultative skills; and the ability to proactively identify and resolve issues and opportunities.
- The ability to determine the information necessary to strategically assess market situations
Desirable Background and Skills
- A degree in computer science or a related field.
- Programming background in any applicable language (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Perl, Bash, etc.).
- Familiar with configuration management or infrastructure as code concepts and tools. For example, Ansible, SCCM, Chef, Puppet, Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.
- Familiar with cloud services such as AWS, Azure, Microsoft 365, or Google Apps.
