Control Technician

General Description:

Provides technical support to the production and maintenance departments in the production of wet chopped fiberglass. Maintains data collection software, PLCs, and plant controls systems. Consults with specialists to upgrade hardware, software, and plant controls systems. Performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance. Installs, calibrates, troubleshoots, and diagnoses malfunctions in electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment. Adheres to all plant policies and rules. Maintains exceptional safety and housekeeping standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Exceptional attendance including working every day, on time, as scheduled.
  • Strong desire to work safely and help others also work safely. Takes primary responsibility for their own safety.
  • Follows all policies and procedures. Understands safety is a condition of employment.
  • Maintains all housekeeping in assigned areas.
  • Ability to respond on a 24-hour basis to plant breakdowns.
  • Calibrates plant instrumentation.
  • PLC and HMI programming.
  • Specifies, installs, wires, and programs new controls instrumentation.
  • Upgrades current controls software as required by the manufacturer.
  • Assists the maintenance team with troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
  • Assists in development of preventative maintenance plans.
  • Performs preventive and predictive maintenance.
  • Performs all Multi Craft Maintenance Technician duties as assigned.
  • Completes assigned work orders.
  • Performs equipment installation and preventive maintenance on complex equipment.
  • Performs diagnostic troubleshooting using schematic drawings, wire drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Redlines plant drawing to show updates and changes.
  • Supports plant electrical engineer.
  • All other duties as assigned consistent with the requirements of the position.

Beneficial Experience and Skills:

  • Wonderware applications design and development experience (In Touch, Application server, Historian).
  • Allen - Bradley PLC & VFD Programming experience (control Logix, SLC500, Factory Talk view, Power Flex VFDs).
  • Server maintenance experience.
  • Exceptional wiring knowledge.
  • AutoCAD experience.
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical/electronic systems.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in electrical and mechanical industrial maintenance, preferably in a fast pace manufacturing environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent lifting or moving materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, reach, and grasp.
  • Subject to hot and cold temperatures and inclement weather.
  • Medically approved for respirator usage.
  • Will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
  • May be required to work 12 hour rotating shifts.

PPE Requirements:

  • Safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, gloves, and safety vest. Additional PPE may also be required at times depending on the task performed.
  • Arc Flash uniforms are required and provided by MW/MB.
  • Hard hats required when performing overhead work, or when required.
  • Fall protection when required.
  • Respiratory protection when required.

Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical Allen-Bradley training.
  • Associates degree in electrical or electronics technology preferred.
