About the Team:

The Knowledge Extraction and Linking (KEL) Team, a cornerstone of LinkedIn's Core AI organization, is building the foundations for the next generation of AI products. Operating at the intersection of Large Language Models (LLMs) and Knowledge Graphs, our team drives innovation in semantic understanding and query comprehension across LinkedIn's product lines. We leverage cutting-edge LLM technologies to extract, infer, and link entities and concepts from vast amounts of professional content, building and maintaining LinkedIn's comprehensive knowledge graph.

As part of LinkedIn's Core AI organization, our team's work forms the foundation for numerous downstream applications, from talent search and skill recommendations to content understanding and professional identity verification. Through advanced semantic understanding and query interpretation, we enable more precise and meaningful connections between LinkedIn's one billion members and massive economic opportunities. Our current initiatives focus on enhancing semantic understanding and query comprehension, directly impacting how professionals discover opportunities, connect with others, and navigate their careers.

Key projects that this role will be responsible for include:

  • Query Understanding and Annotation
  • Organization and People Entity Resolution (OER)
  • Large Language Modeling and Serving (LLM)

This role will be based in Sunnyvale, CA.

Responsibilities:

  • As the AI Manager for the Knowledge Extraction and Linking Team, you will lead a talented team of Applied Researchers and Machine Learning Engineers in developing cutting-edge LLM-powered solutions for entity resolution, semantic understanding, and knowledge graph enhancement. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of professional knowledge systems while directly impacting hundreds of millions of professionals worldwide.
  • Lead and mentor a team of ML engineers and researchers in developing state-of-the-art LLM and knowledge graph solutions
  • Drive technical strategy for integrating large language models with knowledge graph technologies
  • Participate in key technical and design discussions with technical leads across multiple projects
  • Collaborate with application engineering, product, and partner teams to design scalable machine learning solutions
  • Implement and maintain best engineering and scientific practices to ensure team productivity
  • Drive faster iterations via A/B experiments and data-driven decision making
  • Attract and retain world-class talent while providing technical guidance and career development

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of professional experience, including significant work with AI algorithms, Machine Learning, LLMs, and/or related engineering disciplines.
  • 1+ year(s) of experience in a Manager role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent technical experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager or TLM, leading AI engineering or research teams.
  • 7+ years of total professional experience in AI, Machine Learning, or related areas.
  • MS or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or related fields
  • Experience with knowledge graphs and entity linking systems
  • Deep understanding of modern ML frameworks and large-scale AI systems
  • Experience with attention-based models and embedding techniques
  • Proficiency in knowledge graph technologies and entity resolution
  • Strong background in MLOps and experimentation frameworks
  • Expertise in Python, Java, and distributed computing systems

Compensation:

LinkedIn is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The pay range for this role is $200,000-$268,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor. The total compensation package for this position may also include annual performance bonus, stock, benefits and/or other applicable incentive compensation plans.
