Job Summary

The School District of Philadelphia (SDP) is committed to prepare students to imagine and realize any future they desire. Realizing this vision requires that the District implement a robust strategic plan to accelerate academic achievement, monitor and support implementation, and ensure prioritization, coordination, and collaboration across departments, offices, and focus areas. Specifically, the Director of Strategy Implementation will be responsible for supporting the Chief Strategy Officer in the implementation of the District's Strategic Plan at appropriate intervals, monitoring progress, supporting leadership decision-making and oversight, promoting alignment with the Board of Education, and developing reports to share progress with the public. The Director brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in strategic planning, policymaking, and communications and is a responsive individual skilled in project management, organizational management, and interpersonal communications. The Director is a self-starter, able to work both independently and collaboratively, and is comfortable navigating complex, unique, and politically charged situations. The Director is thorough, detail-oriented, and maintains exacting standards for the quality of his/her work.

Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer and working in close collaboration with district leaders, the Director plays a critical role in ensuring the continuity of District planning, implementation, and coordination with the Board of Education.

Essential Functions
• Supports the development of cross-departmental implementation teams and collaborative project teams aligned to the Board's Goals and Guardrails.
• Works with the Office of Evaluation, Research, and Analytics to develop systems and structures to monitor implementation and impact.
• Supports the development of and coordinates with the Communications Office in the release of public reports that demonstrate progress toward the Board's Goals and Guardrails and the Superintendent's supporting priorities.
• Assists the Chief in the alignment of annual budget and investment decisions to support the Board's Goals and Guardrails.
• Understands project plans and is able to clearly articulate and maintain roles, project goals and timelines through the life of a project.
• Uses best-practices to develop, monitor, report, and coordinate all aspects of a project from inception to post-implementation support.
• Provides support for various initiatives which are broad in scope and strategic in nature, including strategic planning, complex analysis, and research coordination.
• Includes the incorporation of performance management approaches - and performance culture - in monitoring the work that occurs across the organization.
• Establishes routines and facilitates regular project meetings among various District staff involved in implementing and evaluating initiatives or project components.
• Provides collaborative problem-solving support to initiative managers and helps ensure that input and feedback from colleagues across the organization are solicited and incorporated.
• Supports initiative managers to identify risks, strategize solutions, and develop plans to address identified issues in order to maintain initiative/project momentum.
• Engages diverse stakeholder groups to gain, understand, synthesize, and integrate input and feedback on key District initiatives.
• Creates presentation materials and talking points for internal and external audiences and diverse stakeholder groups.
• Serves as a liaison between the Office of Strategy and other District offices to build collaborative relationships across functional teams.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Strategy Officer.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
• Master's degree in a related field including an MPA, MPP, M.Ed., MBA, or JD from an accredited college or university
• Five years of full-time, paid, professional experience in school district leadership or other relevant experience.
