The Opportunity This position works out of our Plymouth, MN location in the SH division. Structural Heart Business Mission: Why We Exist. Our business purpose is to restore health and improve quality of life by designing and providing device and management solutions for treating structural heart disease. What Youll Work On The Staff Firmware Engineer will provide technical leadership within a vibrant and high-performing R&D team that is redefining the treatment of structural heart disease. The incumbent will primarily lead firmware development involving Bluetooth, NFC and message handling of a critical subsystem, including cybersecurity hardening, test method development, software documentation, and other workstreams as needed. Required Qualifications Bachelors degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or similar. Minimum 8 years of software development experience. Track record of consistent delivery of working software including increasing scope, complexity and leadership responsibilities over time. Coding experience in C, C++, C#, etc. Experience in software development involving BLE/NFC stacks. Strong familiarity with a variety of development tools (IDEs, configuration management systems, code repositories, debuggers, unit test frameworks). Experience in developing, authoring, testing and managing software requirements. Experience in detailed software documentation. Ability to work cross-functionally to address areas of ambiguity, both from a product design and development process standpoint. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree such as Masters or PhD Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or similar. Experience with Nordic nRFConnect SDK and RTOS. Experience with Laird BLE/NFC family of microprocessors. Experience with NXP MCU Xpresso IDE and family of microprocessors. Experienced in developing Class B and C medical device software subject to IEC 62304 software development life cycle processes and other global regulatory standards. Experienced in the sequential phases of the medical device development from early feasibility and VOC through development, test, commercial launch, and post-market support. Knowledge and application of systems engineering fundamentals. Familiarity common with development methods/frameworks used in software, such as Waterfall, Agile, Spiral, etc. Experience in cybersecurity risk management principles and implementation of security mitigations. Experience in the use / deployment of a requirements management environment, such as DOORS, JAMA or Cognition Cockpit. Experience in development of cloud connected devices. Experience in serving as primary software development liaison for a 3rd party design firm augmentation of an internal R&D team. Experience in first-in-human and pivotal clinical trials. Experience and/or familiarity with cardiac anatomy and interventional cardiology.
