Job DescriptionGeneral Scope of Duties:
The Director of Annual Giving will help lead the College’s efforts to increase annual individual giving from alumni, parents, and friends. The Director will oversee the implementation of strategically executed and “best-practice” programs including alumni, reunion giving, parents and families, and all other constituent programs. The Director will demonstrate vision, creativity, flexibility, analytical talent, and the drive to exceed yearly goals. The Director will manage volunteers and reunion leadership. The individual will be an active decision-making member of College Advancement and participate as needed on key volunteer leadership committees.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise and inspire six staff members including: five Assistant and Associate Directors of Annual Giving and a shared Coordinator.
Plan, develop and lead a comprehensive annual giving program that increases the amount of unrestricted and restricted annual gifts, increases the donor base, and builds a pipeline for future support for the College.
Implement new strategies based on industry standards and emerging trends.
Direct and manage all activities and programs (mail, email, text, student outreach program, and social media) that will reach participation and revenue goals. Achieves these goals on schedule and within approved budget.
Work with the Director of Development to hone vision for enhanced annual giving goals during the course of a comprehensive campaign.
Manage and steward all annual giving communication efforts. Partner with the Director of Advancement Communications to develop a plan to include the creation and segmentation of all solicitations and use of social media. Perform deep analysis of giving data as well as return and profit analysis of outreach efforts on a regular basis.
Develop and maintain personal contact with 100 assigned CC Fund prospects through visits, phone, email, and direct mail to develop support of the CC Fund. Expected travel 20% (4 days per month).
Enhance the reunion giving program and encourage multi-year commitments when appropriate.
Focus on retention of annual donors and acquisition of new and lapsed donors – with a particular emphasis on the last twenty years of graduates.
Produce a yearly giving strategy for alumni and parents, recruit volunteers, set goals and develop and implement plans to meet their goals. Train volunteers on how to solicit their classmates and use the volunteer portal to track activity.
Work closely with the Directors of Gift Planning, Donor Relations and the Camel Athletics Network in addition to members of the Leadership Giving team to ensure seamless donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of rated prospects.
Coordinate micro-campaigns and challenges to increase donors to all designations and dollars to the annual fund.
Collaborate with the Director of Alumni and Parent Engagement on volunteer management for alumni classes, with particular attention to reunion classes. Ensure that all volunteer communications are sent out with a consistent message and on time.
Education and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of fundraising experience required, educational fundraising preferred.
Ability to lead staff, colleagues, and volunteers and to collaborate with all staff within College Advancement.
Exceptional experience in and enthusiasm for conceiving of, building and executing statistical and analytical reports.
Proven track record of securing leadership Annual Fund gifts.
Knowledge of industry trends and ability to keep on top of emerging ideas.
Excellent organization skills and ability to set priorities and keep to deadlines.
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
High integrity needed to handle confidential information.
Ability to build and sustain key relationships with donors, faculty, and staff.
Must be willing and able to travel locally and nationally and work evening and weekend hours as needed.
