The Revenue, Loyalty, and Data Analytics organization has invested in a diverse solutions team that advises businesses across the enterprise on technologies that power the availability and pricing of Delta’s flight products across our network, including market share forecasting, schedules availability, and competitive pricing and shopping engines.

The Senior Principal Software Cloud Engineer owns the technical strategy with software engineering solutions, specifically AWS cloud solutions, combining a high level of domain knowledge with solutions that drive change and innovation across business lines. This high-level role requires aptitude in understanding current business needs and anticipating future business needs, while designing integrated solutions that are agile and durable.

The ideal candidate is an innovative thinker who impacts the technical roadmap tactically, while maintaining the big picture ideas. Delivering thoughtful insight and design elements along with best-practice knowledge will be a core component and exciting body of work within the AWS portfolio.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Leveraging expertise with AWS platforms and scaling solutions across the enterprise

Knowledge of designing, prototyping, and demonstrating new features and components to of front-end and back-end to users to ensure compliance with requirements;

Owns design, implementation, and optimization of software approaches, tools, and workflows.

Deep understanding of risks and benefits for solutions recommended to different business units

High level consultative interactions with business leaders and technical teams, defining and educating stakeholders on risks and benefits of solutions

Platform architecture skills including site reliability engineering, quality and testing, system design and integration, and implementation from the ground up

Utilizing technical domain knowledge to inspect current structure while balancing optimization for future state solutions

Developing and defining business and technical operating procedures and standards

Continuous ideation and decision making on new technologies towards implementation

Ability to dig into a technical problem, lead troubleshooting sessions when necessary

Collaborator, who wants to share what they’ve learned and continue learning themselves

Deep sense of ownership and accountability

Design the solutions to meet functional and technical requirements​.

Align to Security/Compliance frameworks and controls requirements.

Own quality posture. Write automated tests, ideally before writing code​.

Mentors others writing code for software engineering products, including overseeing development of automated tests, delivery pipelines, and automated deployment scripts.

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems or related technical field* 10+ years of professional experience in software architecture or senior software engineering capacity at enterprise scale

6+ years of experience with the architecture and design of AWS cloud solutions, applications, integrations, sand platform engineering

Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior engineers and developers with best practices

Experience defining and maintaining accountability to architectural design patterns and serving as a technology domain’s subject matter expert

Professional experience working with Agile Methodologies is required.

Experience working with DevOps principles, practices and tools in an enterprise technology environment is required.

Experience engineering software within an Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud infrastructure or other prominent enterprise cloud provider is required

Foundational knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle, building CI/CD pipelines and practicing Test Driven Development is a requirement.

Fundamental Awareness of Application Security principles and 12-factor application development principles is required. * Experience with source control, build tools, and GIT (GitHub, Bitbucket or other)

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)

Master’s or graduate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related technical field is preferred.

15+ years of professional experience in software architecture or senior software engineering capacity at enterprise scale is preferred

10+ years of experience with the architecture and design of AWS cloud solutions, applications, integrations, security and platform engineering

Experience working in an airline technology environment is preferred.
