About Denver Kids:
In 1946, Denver Public Schools (DPS) and the Rotary Club of Denver partnered to form Denver Boys with the purpose of providing academic support, mentorship, and job skills for boys who were dropping out of school to work and provide for their families when their fathers did not return from WWII. Denver Girls was founded in 1970 to follow the same academic and mentor support model. In 1993, Denver Kids became the merged entities of Denver Boys and Denver Girls to consolidate programs and funding. In 2019, DK merged with Denver Urban Scholars (DUS), a fellow youth-serving organization committed to serving students facing barriers to high school graduation and educational attainment through mentorship and academic support.
Our unique public/private partnership with DPS continues today. Specializing in Academic & Social/Emotional Advising—a one-to-one, relationship-based, long-term approach dedicated to building character, academic achievement, and positive development of the whole child. Denver Kids strives to help students use education and the development of social and emotional skills as tools to create career and college pathways.

Position Summary:
The Director of Major Gifts is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, stewarding, and tracking major gift prospects from individuals, corporations, and foundations to meet annual fundraising goals. Additionally, they will be responsible for representing the Denver Kids mission, vision, and values continuously while seeking partnerships from within the community that will best serve the organization.
Primary responsibilities:
In partnership with the Vice President of Development, create and implement a moves management system and strategies to significantly increase annual support.
Develop and manage a growing pipeline of major gift prospects from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
Steward and deepen relationships with a portfolio of existing donors through engagement activities and personalized communications.
Conduct prospect research to identify and qualify new major gift prospects.
Develop tailored cultivation and solicitation strategies.
Arrange meetings and make direct asks of prospects to close major gift solicitations.
Collaborate with fundraising staff, executive leadership, board members, and volunteers on major gift strategies.
Track all donor interactions and moves management plans in the donor database.
Support event-based fundraising strategies through sponsorship solicitations.
Prepare proposals, case statements, and other materials to support solicitations.
Represent the organization externally and attend fundraising events.
General:
Adhere to Denver Kids policies and procedures, inclusive of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) practices, as well as ethical standards of the field.
Work collaboratively in a team-based setting.
Participate in leadership/professional development including on-going training.
Flexibility to take on or support other responsibilities across the organization.
Qualifications:
Required:
Extensive experience in fundraising and development.
Knowledge of fundraising best practices, databases, and ethical standards.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Proven track record of securing major gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
Preferred:
Relevant bachelor's degree (Business, Non-Profit Management, Public Relations, Philanthropy).
5+ years of individual and corporate major gift fundraising experience utilizing a structured moves management system.
Working Conditions:
Some evenings, early mornings, and weekends.
Ability to transport materials in support of special events.
