Huntsman is seeking an Operations Manager supporting the Advanced Materials Division located in Los Angeles, California. This position will report to the Site Manager.

Job Scope

The Operations Manager will have a multi-faceted role at the LA site. First, they will provide oversight to the day-to-day operations of the facility. This includes overseeing all Production and Maintenance activities. The individual will focus on driving high performance in Process Safety, Environmental Compliance, Quality, and Efficiency.

Second, they will lead specific initiatives and projects in pursuit of site continuous improvement to transform the site into a world-class aerospace service facility. The ideal candidate will be a transformational leader with strong business acumen and lean, six sigma.

As required, they will assist the Site Manager in providing leadership to all production and technical staff, setting individual objectives, and helping drive performance improvement.

In summary, as the Operations Manager, you will:

Ensure environmental, health and safety compliance at the plant with emphasis on Process Safety by managing all aspects of the Production Department and other direct report departments in complete compliance to EHS federal and state laws as well as all corporate standards.

Support Supply Chain by manufacturing products on time, in full and to agreed quality.

Be involved with incident/near miss reporting and investigations, including review of incidents and assignment of further investigations using 5-why or root cause methodology.

Communicate openly and approach discord positively.

Use Lean, Six Sigma, DMAIC or other tools as needed to improve efficiency, quality, and cost of production.

Compliance to applicable quality systems.

Provide leadership and guidance to Production and Maintenance Departments. Set clear expectations for performance and accountability. Develop talent through coaching and feedback.

Support 5S process to continue improvements in Production area housekeeping.

Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering, in Chemical Engineering, or BS Mechanical Engineering.

MBA is considered a plus.

Ten (10) years minimum, preferable in process plant operations activity.

Chemical manufacturing experience.

Must be fluent in English (verbal and written).

This position may require some involvement with materials regulated under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). This involvement may require an understanding of applicable rules and procedures associated with RCRA wastes. A combination of training methods, e.g., Computer-based Training, Classroom, and/or On-the-job training, will be provided prior to any such involvement with RCRA regulated wastes.

Skills & Knowledge

Practical application of Process Safety, OSHA, and EPA regulations.

Knowledge of chemistry and engineering principles; supervisory/management (“people”) skills; ability to do problem and decision analysis.

Set priorities to respond to customer needs and business strategy, including meeting the Schedule Adherence targets.

Review financial statements and data to improve profitability. Prepare and control operational budgets.

Provide guidance to/and manage production scheduling activities.

Experience with OEE, working knowledge of CI skills including Lean and Six Sigma.

Good communication skills required as this position is the interface between the site (shop floor through management) and other business functions, i.e., Customer Service, Sales, Demand Management, Supply Chain, Quality, etc., as well as key customers.

Strong interpersonal & team-oriented skills.

Requires solid leadership skills and the ability to manage both vertically and horizontally.

Able to deal with ambiguity and priority setting. Displays initiative, is an agent of change, and self-motivated to exceed expectations.

Use of SAP, LIMS, and other math/engineering programs as needed.

Presentation skills, both oral and written including communications to personnel at all levels of the Huntsman Corporation and third parties.

Must demonstrate effective, logical, independent, and superior engineering analysis and reasoning capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

Sigma, Green or Black belt.

Experience in a global, matrixed organization.

Manufacturing experience in the aerospace sector.

Salary range $140,000 / $170,000 per year. The compensation range reflects the Company’s reasonable expectation at the time of posting. We consider a number of business-related factors when making individual compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training.
