PURPOSE -
Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Supply Chain, this position will help to plan and manage the purchase of raw seafood and seafood products to ensure that price, quality, quantity and delivery schedules contribute effectively to company profit and growth objectives.PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES -
Evaluate potential suppliers.Develop insight regarding the fundamental supply, demand, competitive and regulatory factors of affecting various markets.Coordinate shipping schedules to meet both supplier and cannery needs; coordinate co-packer and joint venture companies' activities and assist in obtaining their required supplies. Provide reports to management on co-packer and joint venture companies' operations.Assist with QA efforts aimed at improving fish quality through better on-board fish handling practices.Assist Marketing and R&D on the development of new products to be produced by co-packers and serve as a liaison between StarKist and the co-packers.Treat all prices and technical information submitted by suppliers as confidential in order to preserve a good business reputation and obtain competitive prices.Provide support for inventory management of purchased goods to meet the usage requirements of the company at the lowest possible cost.Manage relations with suppliers and co-packers worldwide.Assist in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and systems to enhance the purchasing function.Provide market intelligence on an ongoing basis and present strategies/tactics/plans/financial updates to senior leadership as necessary.Communicate effectively with plant management teams and staff to support plant and company production plans.KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/COMPETENCIES -
Bachelor's degree in Operations, Business, or a related fieldFive to eight years of overall professional experience in consumer goods purchasing or manufacturing (preferably seafood experience)One to two years' experience in a position of similar complexity and scopeBilingual English and Chinese preferredDemonstrated leadership abilities dealing with the complexities of multi-cultural and multi-national workforce in fluid and diverse geographic locationsDemonstrated communication skills in situations requiring tact, negotiation, and influence where direct control is not possibleAbility to travel approximately 20-30% of the time - international and domestic
