SAFe Release Train Engineer
About the Role
This Release Train Engineer will serve as a Servant Leader and Coach, driving Agile transformation and ensuring the successful delivery of software solutions within the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). This highly visible role will be responsible for coordinating the execution of Program Increments (PIs), facilitating SAFe ceremonies, optimizing value delivery across multiple Agile teams, guide IT Systems, and organizations toward quarterly (or more frequent) product releases to meet revenue goals. The Release Train Engineer (RTE) possesses a systems view of the entire development and delivery process. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Agile principles and demonstrated success in leading ARTs within the SAFe framework.
Responsibilities
Responsible for guiding and facilitating ART events such as PI Planning, Scrum of Scrums, and System Demos. Ensure alignment with the organization's overall product roadmap and strategic objectives.
Planning and executing Program Increments, working closely with Product Management and System Architects to ensure that the PI objectives are met. Oversee the ART’s progress, manage risks, and escalate impediments. Establish and communicate calendars for sprints and deployments.
Leading key SAFe ceremonies, including PI Planning, ART Syncs, and Inspect & Adapt sessions. Coach teams in Agile practices, ensuring they are continually improving and achieving their objectives.
Maintaining ART-level performance metrics such as velocity, burn-down charts, and progress against PI objectives. Ensure transparency and visibility of progress for all stakeholders through regular reporting.
Identifying, escalating, and tracking risks and dependencies within the ART. Collaborate with teams and stakeholders to mitigate risks and ensure seamless delivery of program objectives.
Coaching and mentoring Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and Agile teams in Lean-Agile practices. Advocate for a culture of continuous improvement across the organization.
Work closely with Product Management and System Architecture to ensure that the product vision is executed through the ART and aligns with broader enterprise goals.
Serving as a key partner to product and technology leadership for owning the product roadmap and strategic vision.
Requirements
5+ years of experience as a RTE within SAFe framework, leading ARTs through multiple PI
Possess Strong understanding of SAFe principles and methodologies, with the ability to coach others in Lean-Agile practices.
Proven experience in facilitating PI Planning, Scrum of Scrums, and other SAFe ceremonies.
Solid experience managing risks, dependencies, and impediments across multiple Agile teams.
Proficiency in Agile tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps (ADO), or similar platforms for work management and tracking.
Knowledge of SAFe at a scale/ enterprise level
Experience with Agile Metrics, including tracking velocity, burn-downs, and other key performance indicators.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster collaboration across teams and stakeholders at all levels.
4+ years’ experience with Scrum and/or Kanban
5+ years of experience as a Scrum Master across 2-3 Scrum teams
SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) certification required.
SAFe Scrum Master certification preferred.
PMP certification preferred.

In addition to base pay, this position, based on business need, may be eligible for a bonus or incentive. The estimated salary range for this role is $95,400-$115,000.
