Position Summary:
The Manager of Project Controls is responsible for leading and managing a team of professionals dedicated to the successful planning, scheduling, analysis, cost engineering, risk management, and reporting projects. This role provides guidance and technical direction to project control specialists, ensuring high standards of execution. The Manager of Project Controls collaborates with the leadership team to advise on estimating, proposals, contract terms, project management software, and best practices in project planning and scheduling.
Essential Responsibilities:
Team Leadership and Development:Lead, mentor, and evaluate the performance of the project controls team to ensure the successful execution of assigned tasks.Train and coach staff to build a pipeline of candidates for career advancement within project controls and other roles.Delegate tasks effectively and ensure adherence to company policies related to project control functions, such as cost structure, change management, earned value, and schedule management.Project Planning and Scheduling:
Collaborate with project teams to develop comprehensive project plans, schedules, and resource allocations.Oversee the creation and maintenance of project schedules using industry-standard software (e.g., Primavera P6), ensuring alignment with project objectives.Provide expert advice on critical path analysis, milestones, and scheduling techniques to optimize project timelines.Cost Engineering and Analysis:
Supervise the preparation of project budgets by analyzing cost estimates, resource requirements, and procurement plans.Offer strategic input on cost estimates and schedule inputs for proposal development, aligning with project constraints.Conduct cost analysis to identify opportunities for cost-saving measures and propose strategies for optimization.Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
Prepare and present comprehensive project performance reports and dashboards to stakeholders.Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure project progress and performance effectively.Oversee the collection and analysis of project data, including scope changes, resource utilization, and schedule variances, to ensure timely reporting.Risk Analysis and Management:
Identify potential project risks, conduct qualitative and quantitative risk assessments, and develop mitigation strategies.Oversee risk monitoring and tracking, implementing contingency plans as necessary to address risks throughout the project lifecycle.Change Control:
Implement a change control process to manage project scope changes, ensuring proper documentation, evaluation, and approval.Assess the impact of change requests on project schedules, costs, and resources and work with teams to manage changes efficiently.Stakeholder Communication and Collaboration:
Serve as the primary liaison between project managers, field supervisors, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on project controls.Communicate project status, risks, and recommendations effectively, both verbally and in written reports, to key stakeholders.Facilitate project review meetings to address project control-related issues and provide insights for continuous improvement.Job Requirements / Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field required. A master's degree in business administration (MBA) is a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of 10 years of experience in project controls, including field experience.At least 3 years of direct supervisory experience managing project control specialists.Proven experience with project management tools (e.g., Primavera P6, InEight, Procore) and the Microsoft Office Suite.Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.Certifications:
Professional certifications such as PMI-SP, PSP, CCP, or CP are highly desirable.
