Occasional overtime hours will be required, including some weekend work, for scheduled shutdowns and emergency coverage as needed.
Primary Purpose of PositionIn close cooperation with the Pearl River Campus Utilities leadership team, this position will be accountable for driving environmental, health, and safety efforts for the Utilities operation of the campus.
Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for water sampling and reporting to comply with NYSDEC SPDES (State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) permit requirements.Primary Duties and AccountabilitiesHealth & Safety Coordinator for the site with ~30 employees.Leads programs, training, and messaging to promote safe behaviors throughout the facility.
35%Leads programs to correct unsafe acts and unsafe conditions with the workplace.Ensures relevant data, compliance records, and training, postings, procedures, and reporting is complete, accurate and in compliance.
Extracts insights from our data to identify trends/issues.
25%Performs sample taking, testing, and reporting to comply with water pollution & NYSDEC SPDES (State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) permit requirements.
25%Maintains SDS logs, waste collection activities, and reporting.
5%Conduct and complete assessments, develop procedures, and conduct training.
10%Operate vehicles for plant operational purposes.Wear personnel protective equipment (PPE) as defined by policy regulation, work practices, customer or as directed.Perform other job duties as requested to support the business operations.Minimum QualificationsBachelor&rsquos degree in an Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or closely related discipline (Chemistry, Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Safety) with 5+ years&rsquo EHS experience in a utilities, construction, operations, or manufacturing/industrial environment.Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations (federal and state) and working knowledge of LOTO, Confined Space Entry, Machine guarding, and other state/Federal Requirements.Working knowledge of chemistry and experience performing chemical tests such as water samplingFamiliarity with SDEC (State Department of Environmental Conservation) SPDES (State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System)Must demonstrate proficiency in the care and use of all site specific, facility required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), including, gas detectors, confined space equipment, etc.Strong communication skills, analytical skills, problem solving and strong human relations skills.Ability to make difficult decisions with sometimes incomplete sets of data.Action orientated &ndash High level of energy, sense of urgency, and able to help others see the goals for safety, health, and environment.Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently.Able to sit periodically and for extended periods of time, climb ladders/stairs, reach below knees and above shoulders, kneel and crawl to access work areas.Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping and ability to reach forward and grasp.Must have a valid driver&rsquos license with a safe driving record.Able to read/write and understand instructions in English.Able to pass drug screens, and criminal background check.
