An in-house legal counselor provides legal advice and guidance to an organization from within its own legal department. They handle various legal matters and ensure the organization's compliance with laws and regulations. Their responsibilities include drafting and reviewing contracts, providing legal opinions on business decisions, advising on employment matters, managing legal disputes, and conducting legal research. In-house legal counselors also collaborate with external legal counsel, monitor changes in laws and regulations, and develop policies and procedures to mitigate legal risks. Their role is to provide proactive legal support and help the organization navigate legal challenges while aligning with its strategic goals.

As the Director of Legal Counsel- Operations, you will collaborate closely with Charter's Spectrum Enterprise and Spectrum Business sales teams and internal stakeholders. Your main responsibilities will involve skillfully negotiating commercial and government sales contracts, while also providing invaluable legal counsel and guidance to our internal management. WHAT OUR LEGAL COUNSEL DIRECTORS ENJOY MOST
- Providing legal support for customer-facing activities, including negotiating Master Service Agreements, Right of Entry Agreements, Value Added Reseller Agreements, Request For Proposals, Non-Disclosure Agreements, and other customer-related agreements and customer life cycle issues.
- Advising sales and business teams on matters of contract interpretation and contract disputes.
- Drafting and revising contract templates and other legal documents with an aim of continuous improvement.
- Researching, analyzing, and staying informed regarding relevant statutes, regulations, case law, and proposed legislation relevant to commercial and government contracts to ensure appropriate risk management.
- Working with other in-house counsel and judiciously managing outside counsel on customer-related issues that require subject matter expertise.
- Working closely to provide support and guidance to contract managers who are part of the legal team.
- Performing other legal duties and special projects as assigned from time to time.
Working closely with internal stakeholders, you will be responsible for managing legal risks, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, and handling legal disputes that arise within the company. Through your expertise and strategic counsel, you will help the company navigate complex legal issues and achieve its business objectives.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO SPECTRUM
Required Qualifications
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- 5+ years of relevant work experience (preferably with a large law firm and/or in-house work).
- Juris Doctor degree from a top-tier law school.
- Active State Bar Membership in good standing, plus the ability to be licensed to practice law in the applicable jurisdiction.
- Must be proactive and have the ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional team setting.
- Must possess elevated leadership skills and strong attention to detail.
- Extensive experience with complex commercial negotiations in a commercial and/or government setting, including strong analytical, drafting and negotiation skills.
- Knowledge and experience with counseling a sales organization that works on a demanding timeline.
- Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully in person, in writing and by telephone, with a variety of deal participants, including opposing counsel, senior management and business associates.
- Ability to work effectively, sometimes under pressure, in a fun but fast-paced team setting.
