Job Summary:The Core Tax Services (“CTS”) Senior Manager – ASC740 is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations while acting as the primary client contact for complex corporate tax and ASC 740 tax issues.   In this role, the Core Tax Services Senior Manager is charged with applying knowledge to understand potential tax issues and recognizing and communicating potential risks and potential changes in the tax policy.  In addition, the Core Tax Services Senior Manager will be involved in the marketing, networking and business development within an area of expertise and specialization and may be asked to provide written tax advice to clients.Job Duties:Tax ComplianceEnsures both that (a) clients comply with all applicable authorities, while at the same time minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and (b) self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (“TQM”)Conducts top level review of T/R and resolves all tax issues with client; involves specialists where appropriateCommunicates with client and Assurance any issues identified in tax accrual reviewsPlans and reviews the tax process and the procedures to be performed to include:Budgeting and staffingMonitoring engagement process and actual time incurred vs. budget with assistance of SeniorTimely billing including management of identified out-of-scope activity and communication to clientTimely collection of A/RManages client relationships/expectations in accordance with the projectProvides advice to clients in a timely mannerResearchIdentifies when research is needed; clearly and concisely frames issues to be researched; and clearly and concisely reports the analysisIdentifies complex issues to be researched by engagement team and provides research methodology for efficient research processes Trains managers/staff on research skills and helps to appropriately frame ASC 740 tax issues for analysisInvolves firm specialists, as appropriateASC 740-10 (fka FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax AccrualsCorrectly and proactively applies Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM) regarding ASC 740Applies, correctly and proactively, ASC 740-10, and Firm policies, standards, and BDO TQMClearly and concisely explains and discusses components of the income tax provision and uncertain tax positions to the client as well as other complexities surrounding ASC 740-10Communicates with Assurance team to timely plan tax accrual reviews, including budget, scope and delivery datesReviews tax provisions- applies in depth knowledge of ASC 740Reviews prepared workpapersUtilizes and manages Specialized Tax Services (“STS”), as neededTax ConsultingAssists with developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing clients’ current and future taxesConsiders the applicability of CTS and STS consulting specialties for each clientDevelops and implements a work plan to include/organize the STS assistance on ongoing projects from clientServes as a technical resourceEnsures client service teams comply with Firm policy; regarding Written Tax Advice (“WTA”),Provides effective assistance with exam supportFrames projects and issues for effective delegation to seniors and associatesTax SpecializationDevelops an in-depth understanding of the technical and practical issues and opportunities regarding one or more areas of taxation, e.g., individual, corporate, property, sales, corporate, pass-through, state and local, international, expatriate, transfer pricing, credits and incentives, compensation and benefits, accounting methods, R&D tax benefitsMay be required to organize and conduct effective internal CPE training sessions in area of specialization, involving Firm specialistsMay train and mentor managers/ seniors/associates on ASC 740Strategy DevelopmentIntroduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel, e.g., by reducing taxes or expenses or providing non-tax benefitsConsistently makes suggestions as to how previous work products or approaches can be improvedMay lead marketing campaigns, if applicable to rolePresents complex strategies to clients and prospective clientsCollaborates with the Firm’s National Tax and Specialized Tax Services to deliver high-quality deliverables and/or analyses on ASC 740Other duties as requiredSupervisory Responsibilities:Supervises associates and senior associates on all projectsReviews work prepared by associates and senior associates and provide review commentsTrains Associates and Seniors how to use all current software toolsActs as a Career Advisor to associates and senior associatesSchedules and manages workload of associates and senior associatesProvides verbal and written performance feedback to associates and senior associatesQualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Education:Bachelors degree in Accounting or Taxation, required Masters degree in Accounting or Taxation, preferredExperience:Eight (8) or more years of prior experience, required Experience in managing the process of preparing and auditing ASC740 computations for both privately held and publicly traded clients, required Prior supervisory experience, requiredMultinational client experience, preferredLicense/Certifications:CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations), required Software:Experience with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat, preferredExperience with tax research databases such as BNA and RIA Proficient in all tax compliance process software including GoFileRoom, GoSystemRS, Caseware, BNA Depreciation Software, or comparable programs and standard tax workpapers, preferredLanguage:N/AOther Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Superior verbal and written communication skillsAbility to effectively delegate work as neededStrong analytical, research and critical thinking skills as well as decision-making skillsAbility to work well in a team environmentAble to develop and manage a team of tax professionalsAbility to compose written tax adviceAbility to effectively develop and maintain client relationshipsExecutive presence and ability to act as primary client contact for preparation and presentation of issues and resolutions to clientsIndividual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.California Range:  $146,000 - $200,000Colorado Range:  $120,000 - $180,000Maryland Range:  $152,000 - $188,000 NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range:  $175,000 - $205,000Washington Range:  $150,000 - $190,000Washington DC Range: $156,000 - $200,000Join us at BDO, where you will find more than a career, you’ll find a place where your work is impactful, and you are valued for your individuality.
