General Description and Classification Standards
Performs preventive maintenance services and minor mechanical repair work on light duty vehicles, medium duty vehicles, heavy duty vehicles, Lawn & Turf equipment, and Motorcycles. This position provides assistance to other mechanics as needed and works alone when the need requires; prepares maintenance records and performs other related duties as required.
Supervision Received
Works under direct supervision and follows standardized policy, procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The candidate will be required to assist other divisions with any task if so directed.
- Inspect, operate, test and repair light duty, medium duty, and heavy duty equipment for proper operation.
- Repair and maintain various types of vehicles and equipment including, but not limited to, emergency vehicles, fire apparatus.
- Performs preventative maintenance necessary to ensure the proper functioning of vehicles, mechanical work; repairs or replaces under supervision, alternators, belts, fuses, valves, batteries, wheels, tires or any other component as required.
- Responds or assist with service call requests; retrieves or repairs vehicle and equipment in the field when needed.
- Prepares, updates, and maintains maintenance records and documentation.
- Cleans and maintains all shop facilities and equipment.
- Changes and repairs all sizes of tires or tubes as needed.
- Transports vehicles, equipment, and parts to various locations for a variety of purposes.

- Basic knowledge of automotive principles
- Basic use of computer and standard business software packages
- Ability to: read and comprehend property documentation: to meet deadlines in a timely manner
- Possess basic entry level tools for vehicle repairs
