General Description and Classification Standards
The Watershed Crew Supervisor II (D) Collection plans, organizes, and supervises activities of the water distribution operations and maintenance crew. Oversees corrective and preventative maintenance on water mains, fi re hydrants, valves, and associated equipment, makes decisions on job sites, and supervises individual crew members. An experienced professional able to execute most tasks with limited guidance or review. Work is completed under direction of the Area Superintendent and receives guidance for overall mission, scheduling, problem solving, and unusual priorities.
Supervision Received
Works under direct supervision of the Area Superintendent. Normally receives guidance regarding overall mission, scheduling, problem solving, unusual priorities, etc. and follows standardized procedures and written/verbal instructions to accomplish assigned tasks; may assist in training, orienting, or observing lower-level associate, apprentice, or semi-skilled employee in the group.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

- Supervises assigned crew in the completion of sewer main breaks, installation of sewer clean-outs, prevention of sewer spill and other duties related to watershed management. Ensures effective, safe completion of jobs in compliance with established rules, regulations, and policy guidelines.
- Trains, instructs, and coaches crew in performing repair and maintenance on other systems and structures as required. Jobs assignments typically include, but are not limited to repairing broken mains, installing clean-outs, and responding to spill events. Implement appropriate control for traffic and pedestrian safety.
- Ensures daily job record documentation (i.e., work orders) is submitted for SOM system update.
- Provides input for crew members’ performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.
- Answers questions and provides information to the public. Demonstrates diplomatic customer service.
Decision Making
Ensures the safety of crew members and the public at all times. Follows standard operating procedures (SOP) and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks. May use expertise to adjust methods to accommodate unforeseen site conditions.
Leadership Provided
Supervision is provided to crew members on a daily basis. At times, this position will assist with hands-on training of staff and new hires as well as coaching of employees.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

- In-depth knowledge of most concepts and methods related to wastewater collection systems. Knowledge of site safety requirements and related regulations and policies.
- Ability to read and understand drawings, plat cards, GIS maps, etc.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and activity sheets.
- Skill in performing all typical tasks associated with supervising the maintenance of construction activities. Ability to train and manage a group of unskilled and semi-skilled employees in carrying out job responsibilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to communicate diplomatically with crew members and customers to successfully address concerns.
- Ability to manage conflict. Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment.
Education and Experience
MININUM REQUIRED
- High school diploma or GED
- Four (4) years of experience in water distribution construction or maintenance and Supervisory experience
- Georgia CDL Class B (Required)
PREFERRED
- Georgie CDL Class A (Preferred)
- Required within one year of accepting the Crew Supervisor II position.
- Wastewater Collection License (Preferred)
- Required within one year of accepting the Crew Supervisor II position.
