General Description and Classification Standards 

The Atlanta Police Department's Tactical Forensic Laboratory is seeking a skilled and experienced Digital Forensic Analyst to join the APD team. 

As a key member of our specialized unit, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive digital forensic investigations, analyzing digital evidence including Cell Phone analysis, Laptop forensic analysis and general digital evidence providing expert assistance in criminal cases. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of digital forensics, cyber lab procedures, and emerging technologies to support law enforcement efforts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned. 

Analysis:

  • Conducts in-depth forensic examinations of digital devices, including computers, mobile phones, and storage media. 
  • Recovers, preserves, and analyzes electronic evidence in a forensically sound manner.
  • Collaborates with investigators and legal professionals to support criminal investigations. 

Incident Response: 

  • Actively participates in the development and execution of incident response plans. 
  • Assists in the identification, containment, eradication, and recovery phases of incidents where digital evidence can be recovered, and readily available investigative tools can be deployed to assist in active significant investigations. 
  • Documents and reports on findings related to security incidents and breaches.

Training:

  • Stay abreast of emerging digital forensic training, tools, and technologies. 
  • Contributes to the development and enhancement of digital forensic training techniques and methodologies. 
  • Collaborates with external partners and agencies to share training, knowledge, and best practices. 

Courtroom Testimony: 

  • Prepares and presents clear and concise forensic findings in a court of law. 
  • Serve as an expert witness when required, explaining complex technical concepts in a manner understandable to non-technical audiences.
