The Immunization Specialist (IS) is a Certified Medical Assistant responsible for the vaccine program and performs all functions associated with the following for vaccines and medications: storage and handling, temperature monitoring and actions to address excursions, ordering and reconciliation, reporting wastage, documentation and EHR system uploads, and movement and transfer. The IS will complete all required training for this position and follow VFC and CDC guidelines for the management of the vaccine program. They will address all alerts and handle all excursions. Provide education and training to staff in areas of vaccine administration and management. The IS may be required to fill in to support provider sessions. The IS is also responsible for maintaining records and interacting in a professional, friendly manner with patients & family members, physicians, staff, and visitors. This position also serves as a lead for process improvements as associated with vaccine and medication management and proactively identifies flow and other center-based issues and making recommendations for resolution of the problem. Communication with external contacts is for providing or receiving factual information. Courtesy, respect, friendliness, and tact are required in dealing with customers.
Requirements
Required Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Required Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:Must pass BMS Immunization Course, BMS Medication Course, Complete VFC training programGraduate/certificate of completion from an accredited medical assistant program
Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red CrossRequires one of the following Certifications:
RMA administered by American Medical Technologists (AMT)CMA administered by American Association of Medication Assistants (AAMA)CCMA administered by National Healthcare Association (NHA)NCMA administered by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)MAC administered by American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
Required Experience:
Minimum 1 year experience as an MA to include administering a variety of vaccinations.
Preferred Experience:
Previous VFC training and experience
