This unique opportunity requires an individual who enjoys engineering, business development, and project management roles. A “seller-doer” type who has high quality technical and interpersonal skills.The Energy Storage team focuses on renewable power generation and storage in both the utility-scale market and the commercial/industrial market and offers a wide range of design and project execution experiences. Designs include initial battery sizing, use case evaluation, and technology selection to full detailed design. Current projects range in size from 1MW to 400MW with interconnection voltages from 480V to 500kV and include both standalone storage and storage plus other renewables such as wind and solar.Burns & McDonnell is searching for Project Managers with a passion for renewable energy who can lead complex energy storage projects. Project scope will range from project development, due diligence of existing project developments, RFP development, bid phase support, design reviews, and performance testing support. Some specific duties & responsibilities include:Leading proposal efforts for energy storage Owner’s Engineering proposals.
Developing scope, schedule, and budget for proposal efforts; negotiating refinements to scope, schedule, and budget with client upon award.
Coordinating, as necessary, with permitting authorities, customers, and design leads to drive a customer solution within the required project standards.
Coordinating a multi-disciplined engineering team to complete required tasks.
Setting and maintaining project schedule. Monitoring and managing team to meet project deadlines.
Setting and maintaining project budgets. Requesting and developing Change Order documents as required.
Serving as the primary interface between client and technical team.
Must have the ability to multi-task among several projects at one time.
Efficiently coordinating with discipline leads to drive site plans, energy storage technology, building plans, one-line drawings, BOP plans, substation plans, and other conceptual engineering documents and deliverables as required by the project scope.
Managing approved bidders list, preparing requests for proposal, managing bid tabulation, and driving total installed cost evaluation of procurements.
Providing streamlined project information and detailed bill of material to estimating.
Driving efficiency in bid efforts. Effectively utilizing software and implementing practices and tools to improve the conceptual design and estimating efficiencies.
Maintaining current knowledge of emerging energy storage technologies including pricing, and prevailing commercial information (delivery, major terms, etc.).
Participating in industry conferences and publications to further expand Burns & McDonnell’s presence in the renewable energy market, including the development of white papers and presentations at conferences.
Conduct project status meetings with clients as required.
Travel to client offices/project sites as required.
Other duties will be assigned as required.
QualificationsBachelor’s degree in engineering (electrical, chemical, or mechanical preferred) or related field from an accredited curriculum. Minimum 7 years related experience, including 3 or more years managing engineering projects.
Previous consulting engineering experience strongly preferred.
Project development, project management, or renewable energy experience a plus.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Due to the dynamic nature of the renewable energy market, the ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies is a must.
Willingness and ability to utilize IT to streamline work processes and approaches.
Experience with estimating or designing energy storage systems is preferred.
Knowledge of energy storage systems and construction practices is preferred.
The position requires the ability to effectively multi-task and manage numerous projects/tasks simultaneously, frequently within an aggressive and compressed schedule.
The ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial, as well as the ability to maintain the project schedule and achieve target due dates.
Compensation$135,000.00-380,000.00 AnnuallyThe expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.BenefitsOur extensive benefits package takes care of you so that you can focus on doing great work.
