EC2 Accelerated Nitro is looking for a Seasoned Manager of Software Development Engineering to build a team of engineers with strategic business impact. Our Roadmap is bursting with opportunity in solving intriguing challenges and impacting the customer experience.In this key role you will be responsible for developing and maintaining diverse parts of the Nitro Hypervisor and EC2 instance platforms.In this role, you will create the vision for your team, complete the hiring of the core of your team, and define the technological roadmap by partnering up with Principal Engineers, Product Managers and the engineering teams that operate the hardware and off-host software components, distributed in different locations and time-zones.This position requires technical background in operating systems and software development, detailed planning, operational excellence, and effective written and verbal communication skills.EC2 Accelerated Nitro is an organization that powers the EC2 Nitro instance families, focusing on hypervisors, virtualization and accelerated computing. We build highly operable quiescent hypervisors that provide near bare metal performance to EC2 instances. We also integrate hardware accelerators (GPUs, FPGAs, etc.) into the EC2 instance families to support advanced workloads, such as machine learning, high performance computing, inference or graphics processing.Key job responsibilities

Manage and develop a team of engineers, including hiring, retention, performance management, mentoring and capability/skill development.Evaluate complex business and technical requirements, and communicate inherent risks and solutions to technical and non-technical business owners.Create vision for your team, planning focused on timely delivery, driving operational activities and on-call rotation for your team.Influence other teams and leaders outside your organization, work hand-in-hand with Principal Engineers, diving deep into technical areas as needed, and coordinate with other teams working in the same space spread across the world.A day in the life

As a Seasoned Manager of Software Development Engineering, you invest time in hiring the appropriate talent to make your team more effective at delivering new functionality that delights your customers. You operate the software of your team in production, anticipating problems, learning from mistakes, and ensuring customer workloads run without disruption. You drive the roadmap of your team and create long-term vision. You work with other seasoned managers in the EC2 Accelerated Nitro organization joining efforts to strengthen engineering experience and making the organization more effective as a whole. You contribute and influence the overall roadmap of the organization.About the team

7+ years of engineering experienceExperience delivering products against plan in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined, distributed-responsibility and often ambiguous environmentExperience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategyExperience with the scrum methodology4+ years of engineering team management experienceExperience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systemsBachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent.Comfortable using the typical Linux/UNIX utility toolbox.You have a good understanding of virtualization space.Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalentExperience partnering with product and program management teamsExperience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineersExperience working on the Linux Kernel.Proficient in at least one CPU architecture such as x86 or ARM.Advanced understanding of performance critical areas of the Linux Kernel.Good English written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.Amazon is an equal opportunities employer.
