The Donna and Robert Manning College of Nursing and Health Sciences (MCNHS) at the University of Massachusetts Boston invites applications for a tenured Professor or Associate Professor to serve as Chair of the Department of Nursing, to begin on September 1, 2025. Applicants who currently hold the position of full professor or advanced associate professor with evidence of qualifications for promotion to full professor are welcome to apply.
Applicants must possess an earned doctorate in nursing or a related field and be eligible for RN licensure in Massachusetts. Preferred qualifications include evidence of prior academic leadership roles, a program of research consistent with appointment to a senior rank (including substantial grant funding and peer-reviewed scholarship), and experience in teaching and mentoring junior faculty and students.
The ideal candidate will provide evidence of:
A visionary transformational leadership approach including experience with consensus-based shared faculty governance.Previous leadership in development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing curricula and accreditation processes.Interdisciplinary collaboration in educational, research/scholarly initiatives, and service-related activities.Previous experience supporting faculty development including research/scholarly activities for both tenure track and scholarship of practice faculty.Experience with creation of partnerships within and beyond the academy including clinical and community-based settings.
The MCNHS includes Departments of Nursing, Exercise and Health Sciences, Gerontology, and Urban Public Health. Our programs focus on health across the life course of individuals from diverse populations and target improving health equity in populations at risk for healthcare disparities.
The Bachelor's (BS), Master's (MS), and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The MS and BS-DNP programs focus on preparation of Family Nurse Practitioners and Adult/Gerontological Nurse Practitioners. A major focus of the PhD in Nursing program is on health policy within the context of population health.
