Assistant Director of Student Development & Corporate Relations - College of Engineering (Hybrid Opportunity)

In addition, the University is part of the Five Colleges (including Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, and Smith College), which adds to the intellectual energy of the region.Job SummaryThe Assistant Director of Student Development and Corporate Relations in the College of Engineering will facilitate students' career development through individual counseling and serving as liaison to industry contacts for career opportunities. The Assistant Director is part of the career team which works with engineering students and members of the industrial and business communities to facilitate hiring of the College's students for internships, co-ops and full-time positions. This position also assists the Associate Director in the day-to-day operations of the Career Center.Essential FunctionsCounsel StudentsCounsel engineering students regarding resume and cover-letter writing, interviewing, job-hunting skills and general professionalism.Execute a range of student workshops from first-year through graduate students.Provide one-on-one mock interviews to engineering students.Communicate career events, jobs openings and internships/co-op/REU positions to students.Serve as liaison between the Career Center and student contact with JSES.Oversee the continued use of current student mentoring program; expand upon current offerings to include job shadowing informational interviews, etc.Supports Corporate RelationsServe as a liaison between the College of Engineering Career Center and corporate partners on all aspects of the recruitment process.Using a variety of employer development strategies, identify and develop relationships with new engineering companies to increase the number and type of companies who recruit UMass engineering students.Plan, organize and execute the Engineering Career Fair including managing finances and collaborating with on-campus and external stakeholders.Facilitate corporate recruiting activities including corporate information sessions, workshops, "tabling", tech talks, meet-ups, networking events, facility tours, and other recruiting events.Track job opportunities with individual engineering companies, manage all on-campus interview activities and follow-up on placement to insure quality service and resolve problems.Support the College of Engineering's Industry Partners Program - a multi-tiered, annual fee-based membership program beneficial to any organization interested in establishing a long-term, strategic relationship with the UMass College of Engineering.Help establish, develop, and grow the College of Engineering Entrepreneur in Residence program.Work directly with the University of Massachusetts Amherst foundation as appropriate.Other FunctionsPerform related duties as assigned or required to meet department, executive area/division, and university goals and objectives.Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years' experience in counseling, engineering (or related trades), employer relations management/development and/or program/event planning. A Master's Degree in Counseling, Engineering or related field may be substituted for 1 year of the required experience.Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive working relationship with industry partners and to respond to employer needs.Strong team orientation and ability to collaborate with internal and external constituents.Strong organizational and planning skills and efficiency in handling multiple projects.Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.Demonstrated ability to utilize database and spreadsheet software.Experience collecting, analyzing and reporting information.Experience with career related online platforms (LinkedIn, Handshake, Indeed, etc.).Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)Experience in recruiting, employer relations or higher education career development/counseling.Experience working in a university community.Experience in the Engineering industry (this could include an Engineering degree).Physical Demands/Working ConditionsTypical office environment.Work ScheduleMonday - Friday, 37.5 hours per week.Required to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.This position has the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule, which is defined by the University as an arrangement where an employee's work is regularly performed at a location other than the campus workspace for a portion of the week.
