Position Description:
Our ESSCA Technical Fellows (eTF) serve as technical experts in their discipline. They are members of the ASEG Leadership Team and support the ASEG Chief Engineering Department (CED) in multiple ways. The eTF role is not a full-time position; selected candidates will maintain their current full-time position supporting Task Order work while supporting the eTF role with ~5% of their time.
The eTF program is a highly selective technical career path and is established to create a strong culture of technical growth and leadership development for the Amentum Space Exploration Group (ASEG). The eTF is comprised of members representing diverse technical disciplines, each considered as technical experts within their discipline and serve as an innovation catalyst to develop leading-edge solutions, set technical direction, and resolve space exploration challenges. eTF members are also well connected throughout their respective communities of practice and serve as ASEG ambassadors to develop, mentor, and recruit exceptional talent. Technical Fellows will provide support to ASEG ESSCA contract operations in the areas of:
Facilitate excellent coordination/communication/collaboration with other Technical Fellows, ASEG management, and CED management.Provide specific recommendations for internal ASEG programs initiated to broaden and develop skills such as MPP, JUMP, iLDP, etc.Apply analytical, design, and test tools to provide state-of-the-art capability to MSFC and consistency across our entire staff.Leverage broad experience/familiarity to effectively apply the technologies and tools used in their specific technical discipline.Conduct special projects as assigned by the CED Manager or Office of Program Manager. Develop and maintain networks in their discipline to assist with hiring managers in meeting team support requirements.Support CED and Talent Acquisition personnel in technical discipline recruiting. Support CED and ASEG Education and Public Outreach to strategically boost the ESSCA workforce branding and STEM activities.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Systems, or other Engineering discipline. Master’s degree preferred. Degree from an ABET accredited institution preferred. 15 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree is equivalent to approximately two (2) years and a Ph.D. is equivalent to approximately six (6) years of experience).
Position Requirements Include:
In coordination with the Chief Engineering Department, develop strong and high-performing discipline capabilities that succeed in delighting the government customer and ASEG management.Provide subject matter expertise, mentoring, and career guidance as a representative of the AI/ML discipline.Contribute advice on strategic workforce development, training, and education across the contract to meet forecast customer and mission needs and to ensure customer success. Communicate future resource/skills/development needs within the discipline.Stimulate and develop innovative solutions by collaborating, coaching, supporting, and encouraging submittal of Technology, Innovation, and Process Improvement (TIPI) Innovation Grant applications.Engage with external technical societies (i.e., AIAA, ASME, IEEE, INCOSE, etc.) relevant to the discipline and serve in technical leadership positions. Promote professional society engagement of others across the contract.Encourage ASEG team members to publish and present technical data at various NASA and external professional meetings.Lead technical exchange forums such as Brown Bag Lunches, technology reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings to share and disseminate information, and participate/own discipline-specific Communities of Practice (CoPs).Support and communicate development of best practices for MSFC and across ASEG.
Essential Functions
Work Environment:
General office environment (100%). Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate, and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA ( Physical Requirements:
Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities ( Equipment and Machines:
Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
Attendance:
Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.
Other Essential Functions:
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
