The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for an Assistant Project Scientist in the Ingolia Lab, in the area of activity-dependent control of translation in neurons. The Ingolia lab studies the molecular mechanisms of post-transcriptional gene regulation and the cellular and organismal roles of regulated protein synthesis. Regulated translation in neurons is important for potentiation and homeostasis; defects in neuronal translational control are associated with neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders. This project seeks to map the regulated translational programs associated with neuronal activity using new tools we have developed for this purpose. The duties of the position include:Conducting molecular biology and genomics experiments in cultured primary mouse neuronsNeuroscience experiments in mice, including viral delivery of expression constructsAnalysis of mouse brain samples, including fluorescence microscopy and expansion microscopyRNA-seq and ribosome profiling library construction and sequencingDesigning, executing, and troubleshooting experiments in molecular neuroscienceComputational and statistical analysis of high-throughput sequencing dataAttending scientific seminars, meetings, and workshops and presenting research findingsPursuing publication of research in peer-reviewed journalsDeveloping and maintaining collaborative research relationshipsPursuing funding opportunities consistent with the research programPlanning and developing new research directions related to current workTraining and mentoring lab membersThis position provides full benefits.Lab:
