Job Summary:
Serves as a key member on a project team, taking a more prevalent role in the engineering process, performing multiple engineering design tasks and design calculations while gaining exposure to other discipline activities and their integration into the overall project design, while gaining awareness of budget and scheduling restraints. Must have a strong understanding of fundamental engineering principles, including but not limited to, basic unit operations; fluid dynamics; heat transfer; thermodynamics; energy, mass and material balances; and material sciences along with a firm understanding of key industry codes and standards including but not limited to, DOT 49 CFR Parts 192 and 195; American Society of Mechanical Engineers (“ASME”) B31.3, B31.4, and B31.8; American Petroleum Institute (“API”), Manufacturer’s Standardization Society (“MSS”), and National Fire Protection Agency (“NFPA”). Has a proven ability to size and specify typical pipeline industry materials and equipment, including but not limited to, pumps, compressors, meters, control valves, block valves and relief valves and is gaining exposure to custody transfer applications. Assists more senior engineers in the preparation of design and construction drawings, and leads the procurement support for projects including writing new engineering specifications, preparing new technical datasheets, and governing the Request for Quotation / Request for Purchase package development process. Assists with procurement tracking and leads the coordination of material and equipment suppliers with required engineering and project deliverables. Works on projects, or tasks, with moderate to complex requirements with limited oversight of a more senior level engineer or project manager. Work is generally independent, with limited direction or oversight. May fill the role of a Senior Project Engineer on projects of basic to moderate complexity or size. Is self-motivated and capable of working independently as well as in a group environment, with a dedication to ethics, safety, and quality.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Conducting field investigations and gathering applicable data to support detailed engineering and design for both greenfield sites and the upgrade, modification, and expansion of existing infrastructure;
Assisting with the preparation of feasibility and front-end engineering design packages for gathering and transmission pipelines and associated facilities, including capital cost and operating cost estimates to client-designated accuracy levels;
Assisting senior level engineers and project managers to develop project scopes of work and engineering design basis documentation;
Preparation of project specific piping specifications to ASME B31.3, B31.4, and / or B31.8, as applicable;
Performing detailed design calculations including compressible and non-compressible fluid hydraulics, line sizing, material grade and wall thickness, Maximum Allowable Operating Pressure (“MAOP”), horizontal directional drill stress and hydraulic fracture analyses and other calculations as may be assigned to you;
Preparation of material take-offs and lists, including equipment, valve, line and instrument lists, as necessary;
Perform stress analyses for basic piping designs utilizing Caesar II stress analysis software;
Sizing pumps, compressors, control valves, relief valves, meters, regulators, sampling systems, sump and drain systems, and other applicable pipeline and pipeline facility equipment, as required;
Preparation of pipeline crossing lists and area classification studies;
Assisting with the coordination of third-party services, including geotechnical investigations, survey, land acquisition, and environmental and cultural permitting resources;
Assisting senior level engineers and project managers with the coordination and integration of other engineering and design disciplines into the overall project design;
Leading the preparation of Request for Quotation (“RFQ”) packages, including equipment and material specifications and technical data sheets, addressing vendor clarification requests, evaluating vendor proposals, and assisting with the selection of equipment and materials that meets the project design requirements;
Leading the preparation of Request for Purchase (“RFP”) packages, including conformed engineering specifications and technical data sheets, along with tracking and expediting of project equipment and materials following the submittal of the RFP and subsequent release of a Purchase Order / Work Order;
Assisting with the review and approval of all vendor / shop drawings, including general arrangement and fabrication / erection drawings, as necessary;
Assisting with the preparation and ongoing update of the overall project drawing lists in accordance with Whiteley, or the specified client standards, as applicable;
Working with more senior level engineers and CAD designers to develop 3D models in accordance with Whiteley, or client specified, drafting standards and project specific piping specifications;
Working with more senior level engineers and CAD designers to develop design and construction drawings such as PFD’s/P&IDs, site plans and general arrangement drawings, piping and isometric drawings, civil/structural drawings, route maps, pipeline open cut / bored / and horizontal directionally drilled (“HDD”) crossing drawings, and pipeline alignment sheets;
Participating in design reviews, including Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) / Hazardous Operations (HazOp) Studies;
Preparing construction bid packages, including scopes of work, construction specifications, uniform bid sheets, and associated documentation;
Participating in job walks with solicited contractors, addressing contractor bid requests for information, reviewing and analyzing contractor bids, and assisting with the preparation of contractor recommendations to clients;
Mentoring and reviewing the work products of less experienced engineers;
Qualifications:
A Whiteley Project Engineer should possess the following:

Strong comprehension of Whiteley’s engineering software applications, including:
VMG Sim, SimSci PipePhase, and Caesar II Software;
Autodesk Navisworks;
In-House Proprietary Software & Engineering Calculation Worksheets;
B.S. or M.S. Degree in Civil, Structural, Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering;
4 - 7 years’ experience in the oil and gas pipeline, or comparable, industry;
EIT / FE Certification or PE License preferred, but not required;
