Earn while you learn to be an Emergency Medical Technician
American Medical Response - Springfield is offering a unique opportunity for individuals interested in a rewarding career in pre-hospital medicine.
What is an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)?
The primary focus of the EMT is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation, and functions as part of a comprehensive EMS response under medical oversight. An EMT performs interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance and is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.
About the Program:
The eligible candidate will be hired as an employee and compensated a training wage while in attendance at Western Mass Academy at AMR-Springfield. The academy is a rigorous twelve week program which qualifies the employee to take the Commonwealth of Massachusetts psychomotor and National Registry of EMT cognitive Emergency Medical Technician exam.
There is no cost for the class and all books, tuition, fees and uniforms will be paid by AMR Springfield . Upon successful completion of the class, all tests and state certification, the employee will be transferred to an EMT position with an increase to the EMT compensation rate. The class starts early February 2025 and will last 12 weeks.
It will be a full-time schedule and run Monday through Friday from 9am to 6pm, this course will be taught in person.
The right candidates must: Be at least 18 years old Have proof of a HS diploma or GED Valid Driver's License Have all required immunizations, including Covid vaccine Successfully complete the pre-employment screening which includes motor vehicle and criminal background checks, drug testing and a physical agility test
What happens after passing the course?
After successful completion of the course, the employee will be eligible to take a written and skills test offered by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and National Registry of EMTs and will be required to work for AMR-Springfield in a full-time capacity for a period of at least one year.
Upon receipt of the state EMT certification, employees will be assigned their full-time shift. They will also qualify for benefits including: Excellent benefit package including medical, dental, life, vision, disability and 401(k) plan with company match Paid Time Off (PTO) hours Opportunities for professional growth Response to nationwide disasters
