Position Summary:GEICO is seeking a highly experienced Senior Manager of Application Development for Claims Rentals with a passion for building high-performance, low maintenance, zero-downtime modern platforms, and applications. You will help drive our business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission, while co-creating the culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Position Description:This Senior Manager role works with Directors, Distinguished Engineers, Senior Staff Engineers, and other Senior Engineering Managers to innovate and build new platforms, improve, and enhance existing systems and identify new opportunities to apply knowledge to solve critical problems. You will lead the strategy and execution of an infrastructure/platform roadmap that will increase the velocity of delivering products and unlock new engineering capabilities.
Position Responsibilities:As the Senior Manager, Staff Software Engineering – Claims Rentals your responsibilities will include:
People:
Direct a team of up to 15 bright and driven software engineers in the development, administration, and upkeep of our Claims Rentals platform.
Mentor and guide software engineers to realize their full potential by providing honest/constructive feedback and setting clear goals.
Assist in finding and hiring new talent who will raise the bar and add a variety of perspectives.
Process:
Lead the technology strategy for our Claims Rentals platform.
Own the Claims Rentals observability functionality to ensure we always know the health of the application and are alerted immediately at any signs of an issue.
Continuously enhance our Claims Rentals platform and supporting procedures while simultaneously identifying cost reductions.
Drive all work in support of compliance/cyber security for Claims Rentals.
Collaborate with other platform teams to share and learn best practices.
Influence and educate engineering leadership at all levels.
Analyze cost and forecast, incorporating them into business plans.
Work with third-party vendors (including auto-rental providers) to ensure the best possible product.
Technology:
Be proactive in testing dependability and resilience across the Claims Rental platform and other connected platforms.
Utilize modern technologies/practices including Java, C#, React, Flutter, Kafka, etc.
Qualifications:
Experience building modern cloud-based software applications.
Experience with continuous delivery/deployment of modern software applications.
Experience with application monitoring tools, observability, and performance assessments.
Experience in Datacenter structure, capabilities, and offerings, including cloud-native services (Azure or AWS preferred).
Experience in security protocols and products.
Experience with solving analytical problems with quantitative approaches.
Ability to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.
Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication).
Exemplary ability to design, perform experiments, and influence engineering direction and product roadmap.
Experience partnering with engineering teams and transferring research to production.
Track record of publications history in credible conferences and journals.
Experience:
12+ years of professional experience in related technology roles.
10+ years of experience with application development and delivery.
6+ years of experience with AWS, Azure, or another cloud service.
6+ years of experience in open-source frameworks.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience.
Annual Salary:$150,000.00 - $300,000.00
The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
